The WWE Raw creative team was forced to re-book Raw as well as a top Taboo Tuesday match today, when Stone Cold Steve Austin pulled out of his scheduled match with Jonathan Coachman. WWE had been anticipating that fans would choose the Street Fight option for the match, and were planning to put Coach over Austin in the match due to heavy outside interference. Austin refused to go along with that story, and as a result it was announced on Raw tonight that Steve Austin has supposedly had an accident, and Batista will take his place in the Taboo Tuesday match against Coachman.

PWTorch.com is reporting that Steve Austin DID suffer a back injury moving furniture over the weekend. Saying he was in a "car accident" is a better explanation for television purposes.
However, the Torch is saying that if Austin was "enthusiastic and motivated about the planned finish" he could have taken a few painkillers and manage through a gimmicky short match with the Coach. Apparently he is severely limited with back strain.
Booyah!

If I was Stone Cold I'd be selective who I put over too. Look what happened to WWE after the Rock and the Undertaker put Brock Lesnar over. Or WCW when Hogan and every other wrestler put Goldberg over. Sometimes the wrestlers know better than the writers.

Yeah but this was just part of an angle, not a push to get Coach to become the next big thing!

What cracks me up,is he wasnt aware that Coach was gonna win, even though we all knew that he was gonna win as JR isnt coming back. Plus, did he not know about JRs operation?

I know. I agree with you. I'm just saying the writers should listen to the wrestlers more. Pick the brain of an Angle or a Benoit. When a guy starts getting over with the fans, wrestlers like them should be able to tell you about that guys work ethic and determination.

Bad,bad move! Sadly if they do that, they just end up giving themselves or their friends a push. You only have to look at HHH & HBK to see what happens when wrestlers are given a voice!

Whoa, I'm not saying the writers shouldn't be selective in which wrestlers they should talk to about stuff like that. Obviously guys like HBK, HHH, and anybody that was part of The Click, was in it for themselves. But you should be able to differentiate those guys from guys who came up the hard way and know when someone has too big an ego and doesn't pull their weight in the ring.

Not being funny, but pretty much anyone in that position would tend to show bias towards their own friends. For instance,Matt Hardy,Christian,Jericho,Helms & Shannon Moore are all part of the same circle of friends,so it would be unsurprising if any of them would not give preferential treatment to the others.
Then of course you have guys like Austin, who would only try to get himself over.
The only thing a wrestler should have any influence in is their own character, and any potential storylines they are involved in,but even then, that should also involve anyone else involved in the angle!

I don't know. I still think you could get a decent opinion out of a guy like Hardcore Holly or Kurt Angle. Someone who actually cared about wrestling and its future.

You dont know much about Kurt backstage do ya. Kurt is very political, and very similar to the Undertaker. Kurt is really about getting Kurt over, and little else!
While in the ring he is great, and he has always been willing to put other guys over, behind the scenes he is very much the opposite.
While thats probably a trait most people would practice given the chance,he is one of the people most well know as being someone who is too political.
That said,I'd rather Angle was given the opportunity to constantly push himself than HHH or HBK!

Even the retired guys backstage are all about doing right by themselves.
Just look at Rhodes.
He signs up & within weeks his son is back on the roster.
Even if its a short term thing,Dustys priority was to sort him & his own out before he starts sorting out WWE!

Really? I always thought he was more about wrestling as a whole and trying to change people's view of it, than a guy that was in it all for himself. But then again, look at Bret Hart.
And a lot of those old guys would sell their soul to Vince for little.
Shit, Jake The Snake was living out of his car, IIRC.

I'm actually not knocking Kurt for it,hell,I aint even knocking HHH for it,cause lets face it,if you get a chance to make sure you get as much success as possible, you'd be a fool not to take it.
I personally just think that no wrestler should be responsible for ideas regarding other wrestlers.
Thats not to say they should have no input what so ever, its just to say it should be limited.
If I was to pick guys who should be more involved backstage,it would be guys like Tommy Dreamer who has always gone out of his way to make everyone look good!

i wonder what this'll do to the "promised" hogan/austin mania match?
i think austin is a tool for walking out on this whole deal. again.
i also think that this is the final straw against any "well, at least he's not hogan" type fans because this is the same type of whiny shit people always harp on the hulkster -- like he's the only one who overtly looks out for himself.
hell, even right after the hogan/hbk fight, where hbk gave a few consecutive "break the fourth wall" type shoot promos, his whole point was that hogan was a dick for hurting the story... and yet hbk was doing just that, by breaking character and hurting the story, then, like, joking his way through the next two storylines.
really, the only reason he was pissed, was because hogan is probably the only guy who can outrank hbk backstage, and michaels didn't get his way this time.
in this instance, all austin had to do was take a hit and lose in a fake storyline match, where he'd clearly be losing in a gimmicky, not-clean fashion. not at all that hurtful to his character, considering austin, himself, is not currently a wrestler.

I'm trying to think of any wrestlers who've had booking responsibilities and didn't get pushed to the moon, and the only one who comes to mind is Glen "Disco Inferno" Gilberti.

That WM match was still not a given as Austin was very much against it anyway. When Hogan came out & did his promo about the match,Austin knew nothing about it,and still made no effort to make it happen!
As far as I know,Austin has not walked,he just used the back injury as an excuse,so if he does decide to go ahead with Hogan/Austin at WM,it can still happen!
