I caught last night's episode. Wasn't bad. Wasn't great. So far, they've been servicable episodes with a few funny scenes, but nothing that makes me say "WOW!!!"

Yet, I can't seem to stop laughing when I watch it.

So, I think about this past Sunday's ep, and I just burst into laughter. That was some good stuff.

I was actually unfortunate enough to watch this one because nothing else was on. I know everyone's heard this before, but--MCGRDUER IS A FAKIN' RACIST! Normally, I wouldn't care, but I am simply bewildered by the amount of fandom this man and his creations receive even with his blatant stereotypes and discriminatory "satire".
PenWing: What did you like about it? Explain to me in depth why you liked this episode. Do you feel it actually held satirical merit?

I liked Sam Jackson and Charlie Murphy playing wiggers and retreading old famous lines from their movies/TV shows. Awesome.

I saw last Sunday's episode - first ep. where I didn't laugh even once. Completely unfunny.
Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Not willingly give you cookies, but instead begrudgingly give you their cookies? Woman, time to wake up to the powers you wield - Uschi

I saw Sunday before last's episode, the one where the grandfather fought that blind guy, but that's the only one I've seen so far.

I don't watch it for the satire. Although he does sneak some funny little lines in there. Truth is, I don't agree with a lot of what he has to say. I just watch the show because it makes me laugh. The rehash of Pulp Fiction as done by white guys is funny. It totally disses a certain white rapper who thinks he's black. I don't look for a deeper meaning to this show. I enjoy the outrageous scenarios of each ep, just because they are outrageous. What's wrong with that? Why does it have to go deeper than that?

I love the strip and was really looking forward to the show, but I just don't like it. It's not funny at all, just...sad...
I watched three or four episodes and thought to myself, why the hell am I wasting my time, and my TiVo space on this garbage? I finally gave up.
Pure crap...
Get the fuck out!

Yahoo! News Entertainment Sharpton Knocks "Boondocks"Thu Jan 26, 6:39 PM ET By Josh Grossberg There's a King-sized controversy brewing over in The Boondocks.
Aaron McGruder, the mastermind behind the popular comic strip turned animated series, is under fire from the Reverend Al Sharpton for an episode in which Martin Luther King Jr. drops the N-bomb.
"Cartoon Network must apologize and also commit to pulling episodes that desecrate black historic figures," Sharpton said in a statement. "We are totally offended by the continuous use of the N-word."
The episode in question, "The Return of the King," was broadcast Jan. 15, the day before the MLK holiday, as part of the cable net's Adult Swim programming block. Its story line imagines what would happen if King wasn't assassinated in 1968, but instead wound up in a coma only to wake up in the present.
The animated King delivers a fiery oratory blasting sexually aggressive hip-hop videos, at one point yelling "will you ignorant ni--as please shut the hell up!" In McGruder's satiric vision, King and his famously nonviolent ways are seen as traitorous in the post-9/11 world. King's declared a terrorist sympathizer, and he forsakes the U.S. for Canada, where his speech sparks a second civil rights movement.
The Cartoon Network questions whether Sharpton, himself an outspoken advocate for civil rights and sometime Democratic presidential candidate, didn't get the joke.
In a statement, the network defended the episode as a celebration of King's values. "In no way was [the episode] meant to offend or desecrate" King's legacy, the network said.
"We think Aaron McGruder came up with a thought-provoking way of not only showing Dr. King's bravery but also of reminding us of what he stood and fought for, and why even today, it is important for all of us to remember that and to continue to take action," the statement continued.
McGruder launched The Boondocks strip in 1997. It follows the misadventures of two urban black kids who move in with their grandfather in the predominantly white, middle-class suburbs. The edgy 'toon regularly lampoons the Bush administration, BET, hip-hop culture and racism, and has become one of the most popular--and polarizing--comic strips in circulation. The TV version of The Boondocks was recently nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
While Sharpton agreed that McGruder deserves much praise for his past work, he said the "Return of the King" episode went "over the line" and hinted that if no apology is forthcoming, he and his supporters will picket the corporate headquarters of Time Warner, which owns the network.
In happier news for McGruder, Cartoon Network suits have green-lighted a second season of The Boondocks, ordering another 20 episodes, up from this season's 15.
The Boondocks's debut episode on Nov. 6 attracted 2.3 million viewers, the best audience for a series premiere in the history of Adult Swim, according to the network. And the ratings have been steady ever since.
Ten of the original 15 episodes have already aired. The new season will begin airing later this year in the show's regular Sunday, 11 p.m. time slot.

I've watched the show a few times and found that all of the edginess of the comic is present with none of the intelligence. Boondocks comic strip always pushed the line, but the television show is rarely rewarding. That said, I think that Sharpton might have been overreacting a touch.

The fact that Sharpton didn't like the episode is proof of how accurate it was. That's just my opinion, of course. This was the first episode that was actually thought provoking. Not that I didn't like most of the other episodes, they just didn't make me think all that much. Laugh, yes, but not think.

The only show I watch now on Adult Swim is Family Guy. I occasionally watch Futurama afterwards. Ever since they switched stuff around I miss my fixes of Harvey Birdman and FMA. Most everything else, including Boondocks, is trash.

After they decided to cancel Sealab 2021 and Big O, I stopped watching. The whole thing has just gotten stupid now.
Anyway, regarding the Martin Luthor King episode: I don't know what the fuck McGruder was thinking, but my main concern isn't over King using the "N-word" and then saying "our people", it's over the fact that he felt like interpreting King's Christianity. In the commerical I saw, he was asked a question about 9/11 and what he would do in the situation. His response was, "Being a Christian, I would turn the other cheek"--TOTAL BULLSHIT! Christ didn't turn the other cheek unless it was just him being attacked. When it came to protecting other people, he stepped up to the plate. Fuck Aaron McGruder.

Al Sharpton is demanding an apology from the Cartoon Network for airing an episode of "The Boondocks" in which Martin Luther King uses the n-word in a tirade against the misogyny and violence of modern rap music, reports the Associated Press. "Cartoon Network must apologize and also commit to pulling episodes that desecrate black historic figures," Sharpton said. In the episode, which aired the day before MLK day, the show's creator, Aaron McGruder, depicts King waking from a coma and using the slur in a speech decrying hip-hop and rap videos. The Cartoon Network said the episode was in no way meant to offend or 'desecrate' King's name. The NAACP has nominated the show for one of its annual Image Awards.
