i don't think the bret bits were any part of a return promo, or set up. it could be just a tease. they pump out a "maybe he'll be at the ppv?!?!" vibe so you'll watch the ppv -- they did similar stuff during this years summer slam, even having the hitman's intro music blast through the crowd in a hbk segment.




and that's part of the problem with the current product. they set up things like this to get the fans attention, even though they (WWE) know that there will be no payoff. the fans get their hopes up, and then once their hopes are dashed again, they turn away from the product.

shite like this is part of what killed WCW. one would think they would learn eventually. perhaps they're just insane. after all, one of the definitions of insanity is to continue doing the same things over and over and expect different results.

guess in the long run it's just more good news for TNA.
