The only people elected officials should be beholden to are their voters.
The problem with that statement is that a lobbyist can just as easily say he or she represents a group of voters.
For example: People for the American Way is a liberal lobbying group that tries to make sure that Judges they view as too conservative are not appointed.
Should they be banned? Technically, they're lobbyists.
Same with other "liberal-friendly" groups: the ACLU, Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, the American Bar Association, etc.
Do you think all those groups "undermine the entire purpose of the ...system?"
