Of course it is, if her origin story takes place in the present, which is why the whole origin story is best left for later. We don't need to see her steep learning curve in trying to communicate, and the team needn't be introduced to her until she has learned at least enough rudimentary communication skills so that the rest of us can write the character. For a character like this I would set her origin story a few months, if not years, ago from the present time so that she's not completely clueless when she first meets the team as friend or foe.
