Rain foiled fans' hopes for a quarterback shootout; the only points scored the entire game were courtesy of a 49-yard Adam Vinatieri field goal late in the first quarter. Even without the weather factoring into the outcome, New England's defense gave Pittsburgh fits all day long, and the Steelers' last hope for snatching victory from the jaws of defeat was squashed when Roy Gerela missed a field goal in the final seconds of regulation that would have sent the game into overtime.
