OK,here's how things stand in the first leg of the race for the 2006 Super Bowl Anniversary Virtual Tournament MVP award: Of the three RKMBs posters who've so far chosen to take part,PenWing leads the pack, having correctly predicted the outcome of 3 of yesterday's 4 games to boost his pool score to 45 points.Joe Mama is in second, going 2 for 4 to hold steady at 25 points.Jim Jackson, alas, got three out of four games wrong and is now down to just 5 points.
Today's games are: Bracket A--'69 Chiefs vs. '68 Jets Bracket B--'84 Niners vs. '76 Raiders Bracket C--'95 Cowboys vs. '90 Giants Brackets D--'02 Buccaneers vs. '99 Rams
Get your predictions ready;game results will be posted tomorrow.

Here's how things stand with our three Most Valuable Poster contests after the second day of the tournament: All three of our Most Valuable Poster contestants correctly predicted the outcome of three of the four games played yesterday,so Jim Jackson now has 25 points,Joe Mama 45 points, and PenWing 65 points.Things are about to get very interesting as we move on to the tournament quarterfinals... And speaking of the tournament, the quarterfinals get underway this weekend with the following games: 1996 Packers vs. 1995 Cowboys for the Bracket C championship 1972 Dolphins vs. 1969 Chiefs for the Bracket A championship
Start reading those tea leaves...game results will be posted next Monday.

First, I'd like to thank Chris for putting together this tournament. It would be nice if more people would participate, but what can you do?
Now for my pics:
1996 Packers vs. 1995 Cowboys for the Bracket C championship
1972 Dolphins vs. 1969 Chiefs for the Bracket A championship

Count me out. I'm too far behind to care. Besides, the tournament seems kind hinky. I'd rather stick to real games.

Don't mention it,Pen.
Now then, let's get a look at where things stand in the Most Valuable Poster chase after the first stage of the tournament quarterfinals:
Penwing was right about '96 Packers vs. '95 Cowboys but wrong about '69 Chiefs vs. '72 Dolphins;Joe Mama never got around to offering his predictions;and Jim Jackson has pretty much quit the race.So to make a short story even shorter, the point totals are the same now as they were last Friday:Pen still leads with 65 pool points,JM is in second with 45,and Jim Jackson holds down third place with 25.
Today,we'll decide the Bracket B and Bracket D championships. Our games are:
2004 Patriots vs. 2002 Buccaneers
1984 49ers vs. 1974 Steelers
Let the crystal ball-gazing begin!

Well, barring an 11th-hour upset,it looks like PenWing--who now has 85 pool points compared to 45 for Joe Mama and 25 for Jim Jackson--could clinch the tournament Most Valuable Poster trophy by correctly predicting one of the two semifinal games.Which reminds me,here are our latest matchups:
1974 Steelers(Bracket B champions) vs. 1969 Chiefs(Bracket A champions) 2004 Patriots(Bracket D champions) vs. 1996 Packers(Bracket C champions)
Game results will be posted no later than Friday.

Congrats to PenWing, who has clinched the tournament Most Valuable Poster award with 105 pool points compared to 65 for Joe Mama and 25 for Jim Jackson, and thus earns the right to nominate contestants for the 2007 tournament. The 2006 tournament champion and the winner of Super Bowl XL are automatically included;all the other slots are up for grabs. That said, there's still time to earn a few bonus points to finish off the 2006 RKMBs.com Super Bowl Anniversary Virtual Tournament and give yourselves a headstart for 2007.The tournament final is: 2004 Patriots(Modern Era Conference champions) vs. 1974 Steelers(Classic Era Conference champions)
Let's hear your pick;game results will be posted Monday.

2004 Patriots(Modern Era Conference champions)
Chris, I think this was a great idea, but if you do this next year, maybe you should allow each participant to nominate one team. We've all got a favorite team, so I think anyone who wants to participate should be able to nominate that team, whether it won a championship or not. Depending on how many people participate next year, since you run the tournament, I don't think anyone would object to you filling out the remainder of the roster on your own.
You know, I would do something like this during the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs if there were at least four people interested in it.
It would also be cool if someone did this during the NBA and MLB playoffs. The Modern Era vs. the Classic Era. Maybe simplify it a little, though, to make it easier.

Points all well taken,Pen. Once Super Bowl Extra Large is in the books, that'll expand the field of teams to choose from for next year's tournament. And apropos of the NHL,in anticipation of the 90th anniversary of the league's foundation I'm going to start a Stanley Cup Virtual Tournament at the end of March.

Cool, but if you do a Stanley Cup virtual tournament, please let those of us who want to participate name at least one team. Also, I'd like to suggest you name 8 teams from the "classic era" (whatever that means) and 8 teams from the modern era, just so that it doesn't get out of hand. I'd like to name one team for each era, and hopefully I'm not the only one who would like to participate. But if it is just you and me, I say we split it down the middle and have our picks go head to head.
