C'mon rex. Be real.

For a comic book movie it was good.

But for a real movie...

Damn. I was hoping Phoenix would surprise everyone and win for Walk the Line. I didn't expect it, but I hoped it.

Oh, well. Hoffman's always good. Even though I haven't seen Capote, the clips they're showing demonstrate he did a good job.

I have to disagree with your sentiment here. I don't think there is anything less "real" about Batman Begins than any other movie. The content may be fiction, but, the way it was made was as artistically valid as any other movie.

This is the type of mentality that keeps genuine drama, brilliant writing, and genius acting in shows like Battlestar Galactica from getting nominated for an Emmy, as it is "just science fiction". Art is art.

Sorry. You have a right to your opinion, but, this is one of my pet peeves when it comes to Hollywood and their awards...

Oh, and what the fuck was up with the "best song"?

Only three nominations? And three pretty weak ones at that?

Where was "So long and thanks for all the fish"?

Where was the song from "the Producers"?

Hell, where was Willie's song from "Brokeback Mountain"?

I just don't think BB rose to the level of "art." It was a well-done action film with a good cast, but at best it was on the level of a "Die Hard" or "Lethal Weapon," not an Oscar-quality film.

I disagree, G. The cinematography (which is what it was up for) was nothing shy of brilliant. It was clean without being sqeaky, gritty without being abysmal. I mean, in what way was it any less valid than, say, A History of Violence (which was also a comic book)? Sure, content-wise, one is much more serious and violent than the other. But, in the end, both came from the same source industry. And because of the way BB was shot, I think it stands equal.

Again, just my opinion...

Only dramas and Spielburg's get nominated for Oscars.

Almost all Science Fiction, Action movies, and comedys get snubbed by the oscars.

I liked how the awards went. Still have to see Constant Gardner but Crash & the Brokeback wins were nice to see. Hoffman was pretty much guarenteed Best Actor.

I think kudos go to Jon Stewart. He was himself, without taking anything too far. Not too political. Not too silly. And always had the sharp wit ready. He seemed relax, in control, and having fun. And let's be honest, the opening with all the previous Oscar hosts turning it down....brilliant and hilarious. This was probably the best Oscars show in years. Classy, quick, and actually funny.

Even G-Man has to agree that he did a good job....for a liberal...

I agree with this.

I was really surprised that Crash won - only because I was certain that Brokeback Mountain was going to win.

Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Everyone at my Oscar party thought for sure "Brokeback Mountain" was going to win. "Crash" deserved it, though.

I'm glad I didn't choose to "ride the homosexuals to victory" like Killcony did or I would've gotten even more wrong.

I was sad Joaquin Phoenix didn't get best actor, though. He WAS Johnny Cash. Oh well.

Easily the best host I've seen. One of the few times I actually watched the whole show.

I also enjoyed Rob Cordroy doing voice overs for some of the bits.

Yeah, me too. Looks like the Academy is learning from their past mistakes. At least, this year.

I thought it only appropriate that he bring in some of the Daily Show talent like that. I'm a bit surprised that we didn't see any mention/link with him and...fuck...brainfart...whatisname...40-year-old-virgin-guy... as he got his start on the Daily Show.

BTW, anyone notice how there was an undercurrent of "pro-theaters/anti-DVD"? Especially from the President of the Academy...which bringing him out for a boring little speech, is in my opinion, a useless tradition...who the fuck cares what the President of the Academy has to say? But, I digress...

Am I the only one who noticed this mentioned a bit? About how "great" going to the theater is, and how it couldn't possibly compare to buying the DVD? And hell, I agree. Buying a DVD, sitting in the comfort of your own home, with a really great entertainment system...pausing and rewinding the movie at your leisure....no noisy fucks or $6 popcorn buckets. It's true. It doesn't compare at all. It a helluva lot better than going to the theater. The movie industry might as well get used to this, and/or adapt. DVDs and home theater systems will bring the extinction of movie theaters. And I actually look forward to that.

And again, what about that win for best song? Man, I love it when crusty old white industries like this try and expand....even if it was only for "stock history". And, that's no insult to the group (whose name I cannot remember either). It just means that I have to wonder if they didn't choose their song to try and be more "relevant" with the younger crowd. Could be wrong.

Wednesday, opinion/insight?
