Because (a) the DC Editors of that day are all pretty much dead; (b) the statement was made in letter columns of the day not articles; (c) I am unaware of any DC letter columns being on line; (d) if I hadn't at least linked to the definition of the phrase, someone would have probably accused me of making up the phrase itself.
