Hey, Rex. I sent this to you, but apparently you deleted it.
Looks like I gotta do it the hard way. You see, I was all for making this polite and private. Guess that AIN'T gonna work.

PJP - Next Generation is my all time favorite show. I have all 179 episodes on tape from when they originally aired during 1987 - 1994. I have the entire bridge crew 4.5" and 9" figures. Love to qoute the show. Maybe will write fan fiction on the show.

It was written intelligently, sensitively, and quite originally.

Character development was strong. Relationships between the bridge crew were both realistic and interesting. The episodes were consistantly well written and excellently directed, and splendidly acted.

It portrayed a futuristic world where, although man had conquered poverty, both he and the myriad alien races he encountered were still vulnerable to their own foibles.

God bless Gene Roddenbury. His vision lives on in the shows, and things we take for granted today such as cell phones, etc. He dreamed of a world where, although man is still human, he is striving to overcome his own limitations.

What a wonderful way to affect the world!

I have seasons 1-7 on DVD but not 8 or 9. Did 8 or 9 ever come out on DVD?

PJP...there were only 7 seasons of Next Generation. I saw the DVD set of ALL seven seasons at BEST BUY....I am considering purchasing it.

What did you think of:

TOS

DS 9

Voyager?

I like Voyager and DS 9. I read where The man who tried to pitch Babylon 5 to tv had his idea duplicated by Piller and Berman...typical..though I love both shows. Voyager was an update of Lost in Space....LOVE Janeway, Seven of Nine, Tuvok, B'e Lanna, and the Holographic Doctor. Some of these characters were hinted at before in the form of : Ke'H Layr, Dr Moriarity, and Spock.

TOS, I can watch but I really don't care for the Shatner much anymore, though Spock really is cool, and Scotty and Uhura, too.

DS 9 was on a different level..the focus was on the station itself, and the races that lived there - passed through. It was a bit low key..LOVED the ball game episode where Captain Sisko is determined to show up the vulcan who humiliated him at wrestling.

There was a religious aspect : The Bajorans and the wormhole aliens. Bajorans can be compared to the Jewish people, as both survived terrible holocausts...

A changeling..Odo....and his race..the Founders...

A warrior race..the Jem'Hudar..and the Vorta who commanded them...

Jadzia Dax...a Trill and a symbiont called Dax which had found an eigth life in Jadzia....

And a human...Captain Sisko..whom the Bajorans have deemed their Emmisary to their Gods.

Facinating!

I think I would have liked DS9 better if I wasn't out getting drunk and hooking up with cheap sluts back in those days. I hardly had time for TV.

And I love Babylon 5..yes..it was a VERY philosophical show...I like the deep thoughts that ran with every episode... It made you think....I like that in a show.

An excellent series!

Holy shit Beardguy's back! And people are bandying about Trek. Very odd day today.

First off, welcome back, Beardguy.

Second, TNG rules all. The last two and a half seasons of DS9 - pretty much the entirety of the Dominion War - are the only extended run of Trek episodes that come close to capturing the caliber of acting and writing that have become synonymous with TNG.

Thirdly... did rex get his ass handed to him again??? I need to pay more attention!

Thank you, Sammitch..it is good to be back.

I concur with your thoughts on DS 9. The ONE thing I did not like was when Jadzia died. Ezri Dax didn't have the style or warmth of Jadzia Dax. I know Terry Farrell had her reasons for leaving the show, but the final season was not the same without her.

But Jadzia's sacrifice (ref. S6E21 "Sacrifice of Angels" if someone wants to find it in their DVDs) was important to keeping the fanbase engrossed in the bigger picture, in my opinion.

First of all, "Sacrifice of Angels" was not the episode Dax died. SoA was the re-taking of the station from the Dominion, where Ze'al (Dukat's daughter) dies. Dax was killed in "Tears of the Prophets", the sixth season finale.

Second, while TNG was the prime of Treks from which all others are measured, the DS9 Dominion War was, indeed, its equal.

Third, Voyager was a cardboard cliche' of all other Treks, and quite possibly one of the worst shows ever made. Horrible. Save the holographic Doctor. Robert Picardo is too good of an actor to have to endure those scripts.

Fourth, Enterprise picked up in its third season (like most all Treks do) with the Zindi Conflict. Unfortunately, Berman/Braga felt the need to cancel it after Season Four. Fantastic show. Simple, realistic, and showed the true adversity and hardship of reaching into the vast unknown, and how vulnerable humanity really was in the beginning. I mean, the entire fucking state of Florida was ripped in half. In half! Also, Jolene Blaylock is the hottest woman to ever set foot on the bridge of a starship.

Fifth, welcome back Beardguy! I haven't thought about the good times of Trek in awhile, and, simply reading you posts about TNG and DS9 reminded me to switch to Spike while I was typing this. DS9 is on right now (check the timestamp of this post), and I had forgotten how much fun it is. So, right off the bat you've done me a favor. Thanks chief!

And, to be fair, one of my favorite friends there is blind and I take every opportunity available to make fun of that and we're still friends. That guy never fit there. He never got the spirit of the RKMBs. We're gonna keep an eye on the obits, see if he finally left or if he really did have a heart attack.
