Vortex


An alien criminal from the other side of the wormhole tempts Odo by telling the shape-shifter he can put the changeling in contact with others like himself. After an unproductive contact with the Alien's race, Sisko reluctantly agrees to return him without holding a trial for the murder he committed on the station. Assigned to transport the criminal back to his homeworld, Odo discovers that his case is not as clearcut as it appeared, and that the brother of the murdered man is in hot pursuit.

Odo takes the criminal to a planet where he finds his daughter, the only surviving member of his family left. A cave in causes a rock to hit Odo, knocking him out. The criminal saves Odo by taking him back to the runabout. They escape the brother of the murdered man. Odo has a change of heart and lets the man and his daughter go to the planet Vulcan.

I remember when I first saw this one, years ago, and thinking it was the BEST episode of DS- 9 up to that point. I still feel the same way. It's an excellent episode. We learn a bit more about Odo in this one.
