For some reason, I'm not particularly embarrassed of one of the greatest college athletic programs in history... in a rather more challenging conference than the one Texas relaxes in. Read the records, tim.
your right......oklahoma, texas, nebraska, colorado
they have been nothing compared to the door mats that are mich. mich st. , alll the way down. how many championships do the big 12 teams have in the last, what, 15 years? 6. big ten? 2. that 3 times as many.
so, that means what, there is dominance. and as storied as the shamefully beaten buckeyes may be, they do not have the win totals of texas. besides, any conference with minnesota, mich. st, purdue, iowa, illinios, northwestern, shouldn't be trying to call others weak. if it wasn't mired in mediocraty it wouldn't be so laughable.
tim your grip on sporting reality is obviously tenuous at best. The largest state schools in the 4 states you have mentioned claim a number of NCAA national titles (in all sports) almost equivalent to those held by Ohio State and Michigan alone. There really is no contest here. The list continues. Indiana is college basketball. Michigan State? Same thing. Also, the NCAA has titles for this sport called hockey. It's played on ice, so I dunno how familiar you'd be with it. Except for Colorado (which is quite good), I don't know if any of the schools you mentioned even have men's hockey teams. Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota have all won NCAA titles in men's ice hockey within the last ten years.
Football... the greatest rivalries in college football are between or involve teams from the Big Ten - Ohio State/Michigan, anyone? The two aforementioned teams and Notre Dame are three of the top five greatest college football programs ever on a number of lists, in case you don't get ESPN Classic where you are.
Illinois were the runners-up in basketball last year. Three Big Ten schools made it to the Sweet 16 last year, more than any other conference except the ACC. The Big Ten routinely sends more teams to the NCAA basketball tournament - men's and women's - than all other conferences except the SEC and ACC, and in some years the Pac-10.
We're not even delving into a lot of women's sports like volleyball and field hockey, or less high-profile sports like lacrosse. The only college sport I can think of where the Big Ten is not a dominant force is baseball. Though I'm sure there's some obscure game out there where they're not represented much at all.
And what is this shamefully beaten you keep mentioning in conjunction with Ohio State? If you're referring to one or two isolated games (and the football games you are probably thinking of were actually quite close), you're making a very sweeping assertion based on a very small slice of a very remarkable history.
That is all.
actually i was speaking of football. your retreat into the depths of woman athletics just shows how the true lack of knowledge on your part. including womans athletics in this debate only further weakens your position. likewise for track n field.
the simple fact is even with my tenuous grip on reality i can count. i can see that 42 is more than 28. or even michigans 39. including 9 hockey trophys, in which you try to compare 2 schools when there is nothing to compare. how weak is an arguement to say we're better than you in hockey....we don't play hockey. we just don't fuckin care.
as far as best football rivaly to choose michigan/ohio state over oklahoma/tex is purly your choice. there are several million people in the states of texas and oklahoma alone that would heartily disagree with you. same goes for this little isolated games.......you mean those 2 isolated....yet 1st ever meeting between texas and michigan/ ohio state respectively. you mean 2 of what were/are considered instant classic games? yes, they were close, and yes the better team prevailed in both games. not to mention a 3rd instant classic vs usc. forget the classics between tex/ok or tex/ark from the old swc days. those were not small pieces of pie there, those were 2 huge meaningful games that made statements through the country and the collegiate football world.
but to make this simple for you and sdince all you had to back your claim was speculation without proof, let me provide it for you.
texas: 42
ohio state: 28
do we need to go into more detail. i can.do you want to brong in other schools. the most any big ten school has is 39. 42 is not the highest total of a big 12 school.
so before you rush off to say that is all, let us think this over again
......michigan and ohio state has more titles than the whole big 12....wrong. 67 combined for mich/osu to texas' alone 42. somehow i think you miscounted. classic rivalries, watch a texas/ok game, see the standing room packed half burnt orange half crimson cotton bowl. classics? watch espn classic, watch the great 3 games alone from the past 2 years on. let alone the many classics already on play. ncaa tourny you wanna count near misses, the perennial bridesmaid kansas?
your whole list of comments was misinformed and guesses to which you had no basis to make. so before we rush off callin the kettle black, mister pot, why don't we double check our info first. tenuous, sweeping assertions, or just simple facts. no need for bold, or italics, the facts speak for themselves.
