For one, I don't think we'll ever get a game as deep and open like Splinter cell with a free-roaming aspect. All those different ways to complete a mission and those graphics, coupled with massive enviroments is a little too much to ask for. Atleast in these times

Two. If aspects like that interesting light/dark side metre were introduced, along with the gangster/police swaying, wouldn't that detract from the main story of taking down the seperate villains?
I think I'd be to caught up in killing the Police with explosive Batarangs and driving around Gotham to give a shit about a boss-battle with the Penguin

Then theres the idea of you picking up missions to take on the bosses, like from Commish. Gordon. Sounds good, but im not sure if it would work

Theres ALSO the trouble of the free-romaing aspects becoming as boring as Spider-Man 2's. I got so sick of catching no-name criminals that the game lost all meaning to me. Could be cool jumping from roof to roof and inspecting dirty politicians in side-missions as Batman, but I think that may be TOO open-ended for any developer to ever tackle it



Anyway. The Boss-battles. The MGS fights with The End and The Ocelot Crew are probably my two favourite in videa-game existence. How could Batman villains work like that?
For some reason every time I envision a boss-battle im stuck in the tired old mechanic of going through a 3-step dodging phase, and then dealing out a one-step damage hit. Rinse, lather and repeat 3-5 times and you've won
