King Snarf said: The other thing that's helped TNA is that they've been quicker to get merchandise out to market. They're very quick to put out DVD's, whereas if I recall, ECW only just started to come out with home entertainment at the end of their run.
Like the internet, TNA benefits from the fact its now cheaper & easier for a company to put out DVDs. Back in the ECW days you would have to do a deal with an outside supplier and it would be expensive, but in todays day & age, a company could distribute their own DVDs and spend a fraction of the cost.

Lance Storm wrote a commentary on his official website at StormWrestling.com noting that he had talked with WWE officials about returning for the ECW brand but noted that he would not be returning full-time.
Storm said that he was serious when he said he retired and wanted to spend time with his family as well as his Storm Wrestling Academy school.
Storm also noted that he may appear from time to time but nothing on a full-time basis.

It is being reported that the word backstage is that Jim Ross will be returning to RAW full time as their lead announcer next week. Tonights RAW will be telling the story leading to his return.
Joey Styles is scheduled to become the full-time announcer for the ECW brand, when it restarts in June.
Expect the start of ECW storylines to begin tonight.

Here is the current group of talent that is expected to be a part of the new ECW project that will debut next month.
Rob Van Dam, The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Al Snow, Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney, Francine, Jazz, C.W. Anderson, Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke are expected to be full time performers for the ECW project.
Terry Funk, Masato Tanaka, Yoshihiro Tajiri, Mikey Whipwreck and Joel Gertner will be making part time appearances in ECW.
Several developmental wrestlers from Ohio Valley Wrestling and Deep South Wrestling will eventually be used for this new ECW project. CM Punk is one individual who is line for a big push in the new ECW.
Other wrestlers who may be brought to ECW include Roadkill, Kid Kash, Super Crazy, Justin Credible (if he doesn't stay with the MTV project) and Lance Storm (he may work select dates, but not full-time.).
The play-by-play announcer will be Joey Styles. The ring announcer will be Steven DeAngelis. The bookers will be Paul Heyman, Tommy Dreamer and possibly Smackdown's Ed Koskey on a part time basis.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the decision is final, and John Cena vs. RVD will be the main event for the ECW One Night Stand PPV this year.
WWE will likely be using this opportunity to finally turn Cena heel, after getting booed by fans for months.

Here's a list of the talent apparently scheduled to appear on ECW, as found on PWInsider.com, with a few thoughts on them.
Bookers: Paul Heyman, Tommy Dreamer, possibly Smackdown's Ed Koskey part time I don't know much about Dreamer's booking skills, but Smackdown's been pretty good recently, and Heyman's a genius, so this should be good, if not geat
Announcers: Joey Styles, TBD Why put anyone with Styles? Just leave him on his own, unless you planned to put Tazz on here (which they might, seeing as how he was another major ECW name)
Expected by everyone to be the top star:
Rob Van Dam Really, who the hell else was it gonna be?
Talent List:
The Sandman I can't say I'm all that enthused about this guy. Loved his entrance, but he never seemd all that great, and he looked really out of shape sometimes.
Tommy Dreamer Now this guy, I do like. He seems quite large on all the DVDs I've seen of him, but hey, HE'S HARDCORE!
Sabu If they let him do what he does best, Hell yeah!
Al Snow I'm a mark for Head, so this is good. What does everybody want? (always loved saying that)
Axl Rotten It wouldn't be ECW without somebody doing stypidly violent stuff. Axl vs. Sabu would be a gorefest
Balls Mahoney Only vaguely know this guy. Who is he?
Francine 'Jason, I want my nail back'...great valet
Jazz Didn't know she wored ECW. Good wrestler though
C. W. Anderson Who?
Danny Doring Know the name, but not much else. Didn't he team with Roadkill?
The FBI (expected to be Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke) Weren't these guys a comedy team? Put them with the bWo!
Part Time Talent (Individuals confirmed and rumored to make part time appearances for the brand):
Terry Funk I'd swear Funk's trying to kill himself. How much more can he take?
Masato Tanaka Say what now? His match One Night Stand was good, but I don't know much else about him
Yoshihiro Tajiri Yay! I always liked Tajiri
Mikey Whipwreck I thought he was retired?
Joel Gertner Again, not someone I know much about
Ring Announcer:
Steven DeAngelis
The First Non-ECW Talent to get a big push:
CM Punk Oh god. Why is everybody so hot on this guy? Former ROH talent, so I don't expect any charisma whatsoever. That said, Heyman could make shit look like 24 carat gold, so he should come out good
Possible Signings/Call ups:
Roadkill Apparently, the angry amish warrior's in OVW. Would make sense, especially if they put him with Doring
Kid Kash Not hot on the K-I-D myself, but I wouldn't complain.
Super Crazy He's a luchadore, so I like him. Don't know much about his ECW career
Justin Credible I like him, but even I'm aware of his limitations. Why bother?
Lance Storm Apparently will only work part-time, if he is approached. I always thought he was boring on the mic, but his ring work was good. Stevie Richards bWo! bWo!
Johnny Swinger Is this the same guy as Johnny Parisi?
Nova/Simon Dean bWo! bWo!

It's possible Tazz will be brought back into the fold for the ECW return as some ideas floating around having him do color commentary with Joey Styles during shows, which is the least likely of the scenerios being discussed. The most likely would see Tazz serve as a TV character to help give the "rub" to a young unknown coming up in ECW, to help establish that person as the new shoot-fighting type wrestler in the promotion.
Many in WWE are arguing that taping ECW shows before SmackDown! as planned will hurt the product if that structure isn't changed. Due to the differences in quality of the ECW and SmackDown! rosters, ECW will be relying heavily on lots of blood, violence, and other gimmicks in a non-comedic way to make the product exciting and successful. If they do over-use gimmicks to hide the talent level of the ECW wrestlers, it will make it hard for the live crowd to "get up" for SmackDown!, which will be regular wrestling matches and backstage skits aired on a giant TV screen to the live audience.
These guys are fucking joking, right? ECW stars are not as talented as Smackdown stars, is that what they are saying?
Seeing as WWE fails to utilise the cruisers properly (the division that has the best spread of talent), wastes guys like Benoit, Hardy & Booker in crappy angles & then pushes talentless hacks like The Great Khali.......yeah, ECW is far inferior isnt it!

the way I'm reading it is that they're worried that ECW will make Smackdown look like shite. which they shouldn't worry about, because it already looks like shite.

- In what could be a great step forward for the ECW brand re-launch, WrestlingObserver.com is reporting that the NBC Universal owned Sci-Fi Network -- sister station to USA Network -- is preparing a press release to announce that ECW will be on the network beginning in mid-to-late June, with a weekly show. According to the Observer, the press release will still need to be approved by Vince or Linda McMahon, and the news is possibly going to be made official next week. PWInsider.com separately says that there's still a chance it will end up on USA, but either way, negotiations have indeed been confirmed and things are looking close.

Did anyone catch "Brother" Ray's shoot about the new ECW on TNA?

He pretty much said that "Extreme" was cool now, and everyone was trying it. What's done and buried should be left alone. There's no need to try and revive something when it's heart isn't there. The fans fucking loved it.

I'm really not interested in what Brother Ray has to say. He obviously dissed the new ECW, but you know he'd be only too happy to do it if he hadnt signed a contract with TNA!
A lot of guys mouth off about WWE then go running back as soon as they are offered a new contract. Obviously money is the big driving factor, which nobody can really be dissed for, just like Billy Kidman said in a recent interview.
Just look at the amount of ECW guys who have bad mouthed WWE in the past only to sign a contract with them later!
I'm sure in Brother Rays case, he's much rather be with ECW than TNA, no matter what he says!

I'm sure he'd want to be in ECW too. But a Mahon controlled ECW?

The ECW comments aside, that interview just shows why the DUDLEYS are a great team, both in the ring and out of it. Solid interview with a good amount of trash talk and "brotherly" ribbing. Just another reason to watch TNA instead of WWE.

I think there is something else that needs to be said about this. If Vince is really bringing back the ECW as a counter to TNA as we believe, then TNA just went on the offensive and took the first shot in a possible new Ratings War. If that's true, I'm sure TNA will do whatever it needs to to keep people like Team 3D, Rhino, and their X Division roster, which will surely be in the crosshairs for ECW talent sniping. This could quite possibly lead to the "glory days" of the 90's where WCW and WWE were pushing the limits and coming up with good wrestling and good angles in order to out do each other. And, Gob willing, TNA and ECW will wind up being the more popular brands at the end of the day.

The only way TNA will be able to keep talent is: a)Have guys like Christian who does things on his pown terms, and money isnt an issue b)Pay more than WWE (which is always gonna be tough) c)Long term contracts
Its already been reported that TNA could not or would not match the money WWE offered Sabu to keep his services!
Not sure how long the Dudleys have left on their contracts, but from what has been rumoured, Rhinos runs out June/July & he has supposedly said he will do anything to work for ECW again!
For most of these guys its gonna boil down to money as to where they do or dont go!

The biggest news story of the past week was the announcement, which is expected to become official any day now, that WWE has secured a national TV timeslot on the Sci Fi Channel for a new ECW show. Sci Fi might seem like a bizarre channel to air a professional wrestling show, but it’s really no more weird than ECW signing on with The Nashville Network back in 1999.
The Sci Fi Channel is owned by NBC Universal, the company that also owns USA Network, so they are keeping it in the family. This is great news, and bodes really well for the potential success of the new ECW brand.

It tends to put you immediately at a disadvantage and IMO is a sign of true weakness. This is true both in politics and on the internet." Rob Kamphausen said: The biggest news story of the past week was the announcement, which is expected to become official any day now, that WWE has secured a national TV timeslot on the Sci Fi Channel for a new ECW show.
