A few times. I remember a few great matches between Tajiri and Super Crazy. Those are the ones that really stand out in my mind. There was another Japanese guy too, I can't remember his name. His finishing move was the "roaring elbow" and he had a couple huge scars on half of his chest. That guy was cool too. And Sabu.
It was kind of strange for wrestling because the wrestling was the best part of the show.

The gentleman you're thinking of, NotWedge, is Masato Tanaka. He had some FANTASTIC matches with Mike Awesome.
As for me, I broke down and watched RAW tonight, even after I said I was down. I was disappointed. But, I will give tomorrow night's ECW premiere a shot. They had better wow me, or else I am forsaking WWE for TNA.
And I still think Heyman was full of shit in that interview.

I never had much experience of ECW when it was actually on. I sorta heard of it, but only vaguely on account of I live in England and my parents were too cheap to buy sky (I moved out, ironically enough, the month ECW closed). But I've seen it sinc then, via the magic of Youtube and DVD. Needless to say, the bWo are probably my favourite ECW guys, closely followed by The Public Enemy and Sabu. But never ask me about the Sandman, I hate him.
OOK OOK ACK EEK!

King Snarf said: I think Paul is FULL OF SHIT regarding TNA. So guys have come in and bitched and poked fun of WWE. Uhhhhhh... Isn't that EXACTLY what guys would do in ECW? And they haven't made stars? AJ Styles. AMW. Samoa Joe. I respect Paul, but he's way off base here.
Nope, you got it wrong! The guys Paul is talking about is people who were pushed by WWE, yet failed to get over, then go to TNA and bitch & moan about it! ECW didnt have that many ex-WWF wrestlers on their roster. (WCW yes) As has been said before, Vince had a hand in helping out ECW, so any anti-WWF propaganda was pretty much for show.
As for TNA making stars, once again, I have to agree with Paul! Guys like Samoa Joe & AJ Styles are still very low on the radar as far as star status goes. Those guys are still merely big indy wrestlers, and promotions like ROH are just as responsible for taking them to the level they are now!
At this moment in time TNA is relying heavily on people who were big names in WWE, WCW & ECW to get its name out there. Why do you think that Samoa Joe & AJ Styles are not more heavily involved in the heavyweight division?
If TNA was really about making stars, then it wouldnt just be a bunch of ex-WWE/WCW fighting for the belt all the time!
Off the top of my head, Styles is the only guy to have held the belt who has never worked for one of the big two!

True, AJ and Joe have been slowly pushed, but steadily, and Joe's about ready for the main event. Which is exactly how many ECW stars were made. Guys like the Dudleys, RVD, and Rhino weren't immediately pushed to the top. They gradually made it up.
And many of the WWE guys who failed to get over either got over in TNA (like Christian) or had been over in other companys (Rhino, Raven, etc.) I'm still saying Heyman is coming off as hypocritical in the interview.

But Heyman isnt talking about the up & comers, he's talking about the guys who have been around for years.
ECW was a young upstart company full of young upstarts, so is it any wonder that shot on WWF/WCW? It was only when guys older guys like 2 Cold Scorpio, who had long since hit his peak, that ECW could be seen as being the same as TNA!
ECW could not afford big names, unlike TNA, so for it to take shots at the big two is kinda understandable, but for TNA, Paul is saying that the likes of The Dudleys should concentrate on proving WWE wrong for dropping them, rather than constantly harp on about how they were shit on!
TNA is trying to set itself up as direct competition for WWE, I dont believe Heyman ever deluded himself that ECW could do that, hence his acceptance of aid from Mahon!
If the anti-WWF comments were 100% real for ECW, Heyman & Mahon would never have done business! The anti-WWE comments from TNA are 100% real!

# Lance Storm was originally scheduled to appear at ECW One Night Stand to reunite the Impact Players with Justin Credible and Francine. After agreeing to appear at the PPV, WWE officials told him that they didn't want to use anyone at the PPV that wasn't committed to being on the roster full-time. Storm then backed out of the agreement. At this stage in his life, he only wants to wrestle when he feels like it and he doesn't want to go on the road four times a week.
# Joey Styles wanted to a "shoot" on ECW.com on Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler after the 6/7 special. However, it was viewed negatively as WWE didn't want to do an announcers feud on the internet.
# Big Show was quite happy to be moved to ECW because he gets along well with Paul Heyman and he felt that he was being poorly booked as of late. The main booking crew didn't know how to book him and they were happy to ship him off to Paul Heyman. Heyman is happy to have him on board because he enjoys working with Show and he believes that he has a lot of talent.

# Masato Tanaka will not be a full-time player in ECW. Heyman is trying to get him to come over to the States in between Zero-One tours in Japan, but no deal has been completed at the moment.
# The July 4th ECW taping was moved from the ECW Arena to the Wachovia Center because Vince McMahon didn't want to run the show without pyro. Pyro isn't allowed in the ECW Arena. A Raw/Smackdown Supershow will take place on Monday, July 3rd and ECW will have the arena to themselves on July 4th.
# The Zombie (Tim Arson) was backstage at last night's ECW show, however, he wasn't used.

This week's edition of ECW on Sci Fi did a 2.3 cable rating, with a 4 share. That is down from last week's 2.7 but given the show it was coming off of and the competition from the NBA Finals, I would call it a solid number. Another good sign in the rating is that they built on the audience throughout the show, starting with a 2.0 quarter hour and finishing with a 2.6 for the overrun. Every quarter hour improved throughout the show.

Just been thinking about the title situation. At Vengeance I reckon RVD will lose to Edge, making Edge the new WWE champion. The main reason I think this is that Heyman had initially said they would rechristian the title as the ECW title, but in last weeks ECW, he gave RVD the new belt but RVD kept the stupid spinner WWE title as well. This makes me think they will have Edge take the WWE title back to RAW with RVD retaining the ECW title! A bit of a cheap way to do it, but the most likely in my opinion!
At least this way though, RVD would actually classify as a genuine WWE heavyweight titleholder!
Of course, if Edge wins, we can all look forward to Edge vs Cena at the next RAW PPV!

Until they move the ECW show away from the Smackdown show, it will never truly find its own identity, no matter who's on there and how good it is. The sooner Vince McMahon realized this, the better off the future of ECW will be.

bah. you guys are dreaming.
ecw is doing fantastic with mahon's current version. he can crank out a whole 'nother hour of smackdown, slap it on tv, brand it with the ecw logo, and make a killing from it.
ratings power aside, he's now got a whole new band of characters, new ppvs, new dvd sales, new merchandise...
a 2.3 rating on the fucking sci-fi network? with the afore-mentioned competition? and a week following a spiked rating (because of first show) plus one of the worst hours of wrestling tv, ever -- both, alone, reasons enough to shun (m)any fans.
hate vince all you want. point is, you'll still watch it.

I'm giving ECW a full month, meaning he's got TWO more shows before I abandon WWE for TNA for good. I don't care how entertaining the DX segment was. Test being in ECW is enough to send me packing unless he's shown marked improvement.

And Vince will be so upset that your are no longer watching!
The reason its touring with Smackdown is costs. It would have been a huge gamble to launch the show as a stand alone entity, but they way they have done it minimises the risks of financial loss.
As I said before, initially ECW is using SD as a way of getting itself launched, and should tv figures and more importantly, house shows independent of SD, be a huge success, only then would it be financially sound to move the main show away as a stand alone entity.
Please try to remember that ECW went bust years ago, so relaunching it was always gonna be a huge risk in Mahons eyes!
I think bsams said it before, ECW only became this hugely popular phenomenon since they went out of business.
As for Test, who knows how he will adapt to ECW. For all you know, this could be the thing that really makes him raise his a-game to a level never seen in a WWE ring. ECW is a very different style of wrestling to WWE, and thats most evident in the change in Kury Angles wrestling style, so its entirely possible that a guy as stiff as Test, could actual find it plays to his meagre talents better than WWE ever did. Same goes for guys like Orton & Lesnar.
Anybody who really expects this to be the old ECW is fucking crazy. It was never gonna be that.
