Questions about the splash page near the end:
Why is Jay pictured in one side, while another Flash (presumably Bart) is pictured on the other side?
Who is the new Marvel with the hood?
Why is an OMAC pictured with the heroes?

That's probably Wally in the splash page... I bet he'll come back with a bold new attitude after spending some time in the speed force. The other option is his son, aged to adulthood like Bart was, but if they'd do that then why not simply go with Bart?
That splash page looked like shit. It reminded me of the art in Millenium. And the splash page near the beginning, with the villain fight... nice way to save time, Phil, just cover the background in red and leave the characters in pencils.
What the fuck happened to Jimenez? Wasn't he supposed to be the main artist? He did like ten pages in this issue... I like Ordway and Perez, but they point of bringing them in was giving Ordway the earth-2 sequences and Perez the ones related to the first Crisis, not random pages all over the book. I could understand using several artists if Jimenez was as busy as Johns, but as far as I know this is the only book he's drawing. The whole thing looked messy and rushed.

Been checking out the DCMB's to see what the reaction is there. You wouldn't believe the amount of Johns-Apologists out there. It's ridiculous the lengths some people will go in trying to convince themselves that a turd is actually a diamond. Here's some actual sincere, and sound logic I did find by one poster, though: Quote:
I agree that the ending of IC makes no sense, but you can see very clearly from where DC's editorial direction comes.
It is no secret that the real money in comics books comes not from publishing comic books in any form but rather the real money comes from the licensing of those properties to other media. Everything from lunchboxes to movies; the real money is in licensing. To that end DC editorial went about creating a fictional universe that is very similar to the fictional universes its characters inhabit in TV, and movies. For instance watch the latest Superman Returns trailer and you will find Lex Luthor foldling a crystal that looks remarkable like the crystal he currently carries with him in the monthly Action and Superman books. Moreover, at the close of IC #7 Lex looks an awful lot like Kevin Spacey. Early on DC aid that there was only going to be ONE Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman; and the reason is to make the the characters uniform throughout all of their various media incarnations.
This "new" fictional universe makes the transition from comics to other media more seemless. Every story and iteration of a character that's been published is a part of the fictional continuity now. The real purpose of Infinite Crisis was not to tell a good story. IC was not a good story from the perspective of skillful storytelling. It's loaded with deus ex machina moments, rapid, illogical pacing, inconsistent art, and glaring plot holes. The real purpose of Infinite Crisis was to reset the table so as to make all DC properties homogenous, easily portable between media, and recognizeable to the non-comic book, or casual comic book reader.
The real crisis is that comic book readership is not growing. While licensing of comic book charaters provides more revenue that publishing their adventures; it is because of the decades old history that these characters can commenad such staggering prices for licensing. That is in jeopardy when there is no growth in new readership. DC and Time-Warner management is hoping that homogeny among the version of characters in differing media will result in cross sales into other media. For example, someone plays a Superman game online then decides to read the comic book, or the Superman movie brings moviegoers into comic book shops.

I was gonna say the same thing. IC could've been a lot better (I still thought it was pretty good though) if there hadn't been all the various editorial and corporate mandates hanging over the creative team's collective head.

i still don't understand why earth-2 superman wasn't fuckin shit up left and right. isn't he the planet-moving sunhumma bitch? how was current-superman even coming close to holding his own against or with him?
and why the fuck would batman pull a gun on alex? why was there a gun there for him to grab, and then why would the most anti-gun person in comics hold that up to luthors face instead of ... oh, i dunno, a whole buncha punches? a kick? smoke pellet in his nose? teabagging?
and wondie proves her point by... dropping her fragile sword?
argh.
and who the fuck is the batman beyond looking chick in the lower right of the final spread?
and is that the new martian manhunter suit? cuz it, too, sucks!
I have to agree. It just left me with an empty feeling. Not in the emotionally sorrowful way, either. But, just...."meh". And, while I was reading it, the only thing I thought was "What the Fuck?"
There was no impact. No climax. All the dialogue and point of the story was either beaten over our head with literal meaning, or, was simply just there. WTF??
Everytime it seemed like the story might go somewhere, or, take on a real life, or, take a real chance.....Johns quickly reigned it back into simplified mediocrity. WTF??
Where was the "shocking deaths"? Connor?? Really? That's it? Well, what happens if you never gave a shit about Connor in the first place? What then? WTF??
Also, can someone explain how in the FUCK Nightwing survived that blast to the chest? Anyone? One panel he's laying there bleeding all over everything....next, we see he, Tim, and Bruce setting off on their Gay Cruise. WTF??
How did Superman lose his powers? Kryptonite exposure? For a fucking YEAR? WTF??
Wonder Woman's sword can carve atoms in half, and cut Superman's hands....but it breaks when it hits the ground from a simple toss? WTF??
Deathstroke single-handedly beat Batman down a few years ago, and slaughtered the JLA in IdC, but, in here, Bats, Robin, and Nightwing take him and tie him up off panel?? WTF??
So, instead of allowing the Golden Age Superman....the first superhero ever....his much deserved 'Happy Ending' from the original Crisis, Johns digs his body up, shakes it around alot with hollow dialogue for this mini, and then has him die a completely pointless death at the hands of a teenager??
W T F ? ?
What a sad, pathetic, pointless, and superbly uninspiring miniseries this turned out to be. Bad enough the art was so half-assed and uneven.....but they couldn't even have had the balls to do ANYthing worthy of using the name "Crisis"?
Pathetic. This truly seals it. Geoff Johns is a talentless hack. He now ranks up there with Jeph Loeb as being nothing but alot of unimaginative hot air. I now pray for the day he leaves DC Comics....

Seems the consensus of Infinite Crisis is a unaminous "meh". I like Geoff John's stuff usually but not this. For me there was no story that could be good that killed the original Superman. Like the first Crisis, this was a clunky story. For the amount of characters that was almost unavoidable but unlike the first Crisis this one couldn't let the GA Supes have any type of happy ending. Good stories build to satisfying conclusion. This one just killed off a legend & ended with an evil twisted Superboy. Yeah the big three are friends again but that doesn't come off as very satisfying considering the losses.
The final spread with all the heroes doesn't really work. Lobo & Black Adam? Some have modified costumes that are not improvements like Shazam's hood & whatever Uncle Sam is wearing. Sorta interesting seeing Starman & a Batgirl in there but overall I was left feeling less than impressed.
I'm ready for the next Crisis myself. Like the evil Superboy, I think it's time for DC to just start over. Maybe something like Marvel's Ultimate line. They could continue publishing this DCU but start another one building from the ground up.
Fair play!

Is it? I've been buying the All Star Supes but it started with Clark already well established as Superman. There doesn't seem to be a connected universe with All Star Batman that I've noticed. I guess I'm thinking of something more in line of a new Superman #1 coming, then a bit later a new Batman & Wonder Woman following.

Fuck DC Comics. After 27 years, I'm done being screwed out of my money for this lame-ass, mediocre shit...

It might be a nod to the 1977 novel Super-Folks.
In the book, the "evil Capt. Marvel Jr" character is a hooded supervillain known as Demoniac.
More on the book here.

Batman Begins, Smallville, and perhaps the new Wonder Woman movie were and are all origin stories of their own. Couple that with alternate-universe Prometheus' post, and it's easy to see why DC probably won't support new in-comic book origin stories for any of their main characters any time soon (even if these stories don't fall in main continuity).
It's not like new readers are smart enough to know that the characters were established in comic books decades before the movies and show. It's not like they would understand that these new stories are just new interpretations of old histories.

Good. Good.
(my wife and I have a running gag when we're watching movies. We add "now take off your pants" to random lines. We'd probably drive anyone else nuts if they tried to watch with us.)
