How the hell does Deathstroke take down seven members of the JLA like that? I don't care how well Meltzer thinks he timed it, there's no way someone like Kyle waits around for the villain to set off some bombs, stab the Flash, slice off Ollie's arrows, slice off Hawkman's wings, bitchslap Zatanna and whip out a laser pointer before he does anything. It reminded me of those bad martial arts movies where the thugs all wait around to attack Jet Li one by one. Just rush him all at once, goddamnit!
Oh, and Kyle's big move when he DOES make it? He tries to punch Deathstroke. A PUNCH. Kyle can crush people from space.
Actually, now that I think about it, I think Meltzer hates Kyle. He punks him out later in that story as well.

Twenty-years of stories backing Slade's abilities, where he continually takes down the entire Titans roster during their absolute prime, and literally beats Batman unconscious in a hand-to-hand fight years before Grant Morrison created 'Prometheus'. VS.Ten years of fleshing Kyle out as barely out of the "newbie"-gate. Yeah, my money's on Deathstroke everytime...

Now that would be a good plot twist.
While I might accept Deathstroke taking down GL, I still have serious trouble accepting that he got the Flash.

Does the Flash's metabolism work really fast? So he would be able to absorb a poison very quickly, but recover from it very quickly? If so, why not poison him? Deathstroke's armour could have been covered in some sort of near lethal poison. As soon as the Flash touches him, he's out.
Or knee cap him with a remote controlled laser. He runs at close to light speed, or at light speed, so a laser might catch him.
Or just not have him appear in that issue.

My problem is not with Deathstroke taking out Kyle. Nor is it with Deathstroke taking out the Flash. Either of these things individually I would be fine with, if written in a believable manner.
My problem is with Deathstroke taking out Flash, Green Arrow, Zatanna, Hawkman, Atom, Elongated Man and Green Lantern one by one, while these heroes all seemingly stand around waiting for their turn. See my earlier bad martial arts movie analogy.

Pre-crisis, at least, Flash could speed up his metabolism to cure a cold within seconds. So I assume he do something similar with a poison, assuming it was a type of poison that the body could, in fact, metabolize.

Anyway, I will never have a problem with Slade taking Wally out. He's fought and beaten the kid numerous, numerous times when he was a Titan. So, being ready for the speed just isn't an issue in my mind.
Danny : I do understand your problem with the "pacing speed" of the fight. And, as much as I hate to say it, I think some if not most of the blame falls on Rags Morales. Meltzer's script/dialogue seems to indicate the entire fight lasts only a couple of seconds. But, Rags (and, of course, possibly Meltzer) didn't convey the instantaneous nature of it as effectively as one might hope.
I think it was, in mind, a gloriously visual fight, perfect for the cinema. But, in the panels of a comic....well, the speed wasn't apparent...

That's a fair comment. Deathstroke would move very quickly. Better artwork would have depicted him dancing between his opponents.

I haven't read Titans is over twenty years, but during the Perez run, I thought the only thing that allowed Slade to take down Wally was the fact that, at the time, Wally's powers were malfunctioning. Am I remembering it wrong?

I liked Identity Crisis except for a few things: Tim's father dying and not enough Elongated Man. It seemed like Ralph would be more active in solving the murder...yet nothing. The last issue of the mini sucked.

Yeah, Meltzer always said that it was Jean from the start. But, I've always had a suspicion that it was supposed to be Atom. It wouldn't be far-fetched for DC to come in at the last second and be like "No, wait, you can't do that to the Atom. We just found out that the character has twelve fans left."

Meltzer always had Jean in mind. he cited her past insanity from actual SA stories as one of the factors. actual clues put into the book were 1) the positioning of sue's hands during her "hanging" which were consistent with people hanging themselves and 2) the time listed on her cellphone, which was inaccurate.
