if there was a product that you had no interest in (or, based on previews, flat-out disliked), why would I want you to try it, anyway? Especially when that product is another in a long line of similar products you've disliked?

if there was a history of me liking things in that genre or even in that specific category, and then i left for some time, and people that stayed around were telling me it was worth coming back for?

why wouldn't i?

comics, wrestling, baseball, portable gaming ... i've revisited a lot of things in my life because they got good again, surprisingly or otherwise. and sometimes, it took a complete reimagining of the genre to do that.

and they're all things i would have missed out on had i not given them another shot.

I'm not going to go out of my way to try it out, though. Why should I? It doesn't look interesting to me, much like the Tom Clancy games(which I'll also be avoiding as much as possible) don't look interesting to me.

fair enough.

The only "judgement" I've made about Nintendo in general I've already stated. They don't have a wide selection of original games, which is made worse by the way they seem to crank out tons of rehashed versions of their old franchise standards.

i still can't believe you'd associate that tribute to nintendo.

Like I said, the feature to me is the game. Not using a mouse, keyboard, joystick, cellphone, magic wand, rubber chicken, etc to play it. Does that mean the controller is totally unimportant? No, it just means that new controller ("does not equal" symbol) new game. To suggest otherwise is, in my opinion, lame.

i guess i just can't imagine how you don't.

to me, all ds games (that utilize ds features) are brand new -- because of their interface. part of the reason all n64/gc games were brand new was because of their interface. you don't feel the same?

What non-Mario/Zelda/Metroid/etc games did you think were getting a lot of pub, Rob? I was looking over this, but the only one listed that looked at all interesting to me was Red Steel(maybe Blitz: the League). The rest seemed kind of...well, too Nintendo-y. Cartoonish.

which got a lot of attention? or which were the most fun? or most playable...?

for most attention, absolutely, the icons grabbed the spotlight. that was true for all systems across the board at e3, as it is every year.

if you're asking which (aside from the icons) were the most fun / had most potential, made best use of the controls etc, red steel was probably the one with the biggest buzz, because its taking a familiar genre (fps) and pressing the advantage of the controls, with an interesting gun-to-sword gameplay idea, to boot.

this is a more accurate list of what was at e3.

excite truck went a similar route, taking a driving game and injecting motion sensitivity. really makes you feel like a kid again, when you used to lean left or right with the controller to turn, even though it never did anything. ...now it does!

project hammer was probably the most fun game on the floor for me -- its basically a "destroy everything" sorta game in a "blast corps" vein. you're just this guy with a giant hammer walkin around smashing the fuck out of everything -- and the hammer, of course, is controlled by the remote looking controller, so you're swinging around like a madman, as well, really getting into it. ...for me, it has a very "i wish i were the hulk" comic book feel to it. aweshome.

the sports games (tennis, baseball, golf -- all one game) were very fun, very quick to pick up, and extremely intuitive. i did not get a chance to play the flying demo (which i think is on the games disc, as well) but i heard that was sweet.
