Just got back from seeing the Lepps at Hammersmith & it was fucking awesome!
I was initially pissed off with the price of the tickets, but I think the support acts justified it!
First band on was The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Ok, they aint one of my bands, but you cant knock them for star power.
They put on a pretty damn good set despite the fact I didnt know any of their tunes!
Next up was a band that I am a lot more familiar with, and am also a big fan of, so it was a nice surprise to see them on the bill!
That band was Cheap Trick!
They were fucking awesome, and a hell of a lot heavier live than they are on record!
The audience went mad!
If the audience went mad for Cheap Trick, they went totally ballistic for the main event!
Def Leppard havent missed a beat, and they know exactly what the fans wanna hear!
Ok, there were a few covers from the new CD, and some classic songs were missing, but when yuo have a catalogue with as many "hits" as they do, yer never gonna be able to fit em all in!
What was highly noticeable was that there were absolutely no songs from Slang or X performed at all!
Even Euphoria got a song in, but nothing from the least popular Leppard CDs, so as I say, they know what the fans want!
Like Cheap Trick, Leppard are much more metal live than on record, so there were plenty of ripping guitar solos and pounding drums!
All in all it was a great show, and well worth the ticket price!
If they could just translate this energy back into the studio, we could truly have another great Leppard album, but something tells me that day is done!
