Spoilers (though you want spoilers so a spoiler warning seems odd.)
They found some barely habital planet that was masked from sensores by strange magnetics in th solar system and Baltar won the presidency by promising to settle there. Then Gina (the number 6 from the pegasus) fucked Baltar and later set off the nuclear bomb he gave her. Jump ahead one year, most everyone has settled on New Caprica and life is kind of shitty because there's no real resources and Baltar lives like a playboy who has no fucking clue about being President. Adama and son are still on their Battlestars, which have skeleton crews at this point when they detect incoming Cylon fleet. Due to the low crew, they can't fight and have to flee with as many manned ships as possible to plan some sort of rescue operation.
The cylons take the planet, robo-cylons marching the streets of their small town, and the human-cylons reveal that the nuclear detonation showed up as a radar blip to them that they were just checking out. That's where it ends.
