As far as this whole thing goes, Kevin Smith will freely admit that he's a whore for publicity.

true to a degree.

He's said he'll do anything for publicity. I've seen him say it.

This is the guy who protested his own film

he went to the protest to anonymously talk to the protesters, see why they were so upset without seeing the film.

.... with a big sign with a nice catchy slogan to denounce the film. He also talked to a news reporter as a protestor, though jokeingly. All of which created a nice internet buzz while Dogma was still in theaters.

and took shots at Tim Buton for the Planet of the Apes ending just to grab some headlines.

First off, Burton's Apes movie was aweful. Secondly, Smith jokingly said Burton's ending was similar to one of his own stories. A reporter ran with it and the press treated it seriously, when Smith was half joking.
Burton responded angrily that "anyone who knows him knows he would never read a comic book, especially not on by kevin smith."
Smith responded "that explains Batman."

Started because he thought it would be funny and because he's a whore for publicity. I've seen An Evening with Kevin Smith too. I know these stories.

It tends to put you immediately at a disadvantage and IMO is a sign of true weakness.
This is true both in politics and on the internet."
