Bored as hell, broke out some old CDs and decided to make this post...scanned CD covers from my personal collection whenever possible. Remember..it's my opinion. Post yer own.

Number One-

Bad Religion- "No Substance" (1998)

 -

I'm a longtime fan of this group, which dates back to the early 1980's...tracks to listen for:

"The Biggest Killer in American History"

"No Substance"

"Mediocre Minds"

Number two-

The Misfits- "Famous Monsters"

 -

A definate change of sound since the Danzig days, and more polished than the Micheal Graves debut disc "American Psycho"...The Misfits seem to have went into more of a "psychobilly" direction than old school punk with this album, especially with the tracks "Saturday Night" and "Scream".

Tracks to listen to-

"Forbidden Zone"
"Hunting Humans"
"Saturday Night"
"Scream"
"Helena"

Number three-

The Donnas "Get Skintight"

 -

I love this band....imagine a female version of the Ramones, they really remind me alot of the Runaways....

Tracks to listen for-

"Zero"
"You Don't Wanna Call"

Number four-

The Offspring "Smash"

 -

My favorite of the so-called "new So-Cal" sound...the best of the crop out there now, IMO.

Tracks to listen for-

"Self Esteem"
"Come Out and Play"

Can't scan the covers, but my best punk albums of the last 10 years (crossing over into ska-punk and alternative/garage bands):

Less Than Jake - Pezcore (but any album by them is great)
Operation Ivy - self-titled (I believe this collected all their EPs and singles)
Rancid - ...And Out Came The Wolves
Dropkick Murphys - Sing Loud, Sing Proud (punk with traditional Irish influences)
Goldfinger - self-titled (great poppy ska-punk, they went downhill after that)
Reel Big Fish - Turn the Radio Off (loads of fun)
Weezer - "Blue Album" and Pinkerton (call them alternative or whatever, but if Sum 41 is punk then Weezer can be too)
The Strokes - Is This It?
White Stripes - White Blood Cells

I dig Weezer alot myself, as well....for me, they sound an awful lot like some of the so-called "New wave" guys of the early 1980's, especially one of my favorites, The Cars.

'Course, it's no wonder...Ric Ocasick (lead singer of the Cars) has produced all of their albums, I believe..

Number five

The Ramones "Adios Amigos"

 -

The Ramones' final studio album of original material...solid stuff, even after all the years. It's a shame about the recent deaths of Joey Ramone and Dee Dee...trhe even bigger shame is that they are finally receiving some recognition for their contribution to the music scene after the band's been disbanded...

Tracks to Listen for-
"I'm Making Monsters For My Friends"
"It's Not For Me to Know"
"Life's a Gas"

Number six-

Pennywise "Full Circle"

 -

Good ol' hardcore punk...a nice mix of speed and thrash.

Tracks to listen to-

"Fight Till You Die"
"Society"
"What If I"

Number seven-

Rocket From The Crypt "Scream, Dracula, Scream!"

 -

Great psychobilly band with a sound similiar to the early Danzig Misfits...

Tracks to listen for-

"Drop Out"
"Middle"
"On a Rope"

I have yet to hear Rocket From the Crypt, but a lot of people whose musical tastes I respect all love them. Now I'm even more intrigued, since I love rockabilly and psychobilly.

Sadly...I'd heard of the band for a few years now, but only recently discovered the CD...they have a huge discography, though...

I dig the whole psychobilly and rockabilly scene...just a natural outgrowth of my love for 50's music, which, when you boil most old school punk down to it's core (take the Ramones, for instance) that's what it is, just with more sixteenth notes...

This is one of the reasons I'm such a huge fan of Social Distortion and lead singer Mike Ness' solo stuff...

Man, now you're talking MY language! I love Social D, and I am still pissed at myself for BEING AT Warped Tour '97 but not taking the time to check them out when they were on stage.

But as much as I like Social Distortion, I dig Mike Ness' solo work even more. "Cheating At Solitaire" is one of my all-time favorite albums, and I like "Under the Influences" a lot too. Just pulls together all sorts of great American music, from country-Western to folk to punk rock. I love every damn note on those two CDs.

I'm also a huge fan of '50s rock, instrumental surf music, swing (including all those late-'90s ex-punker swing bands), and anything pulling all those styles together.

I had to listen to this one quite a few times to adjust to the new sound, but ended up liking it quite a lot. Kong at the Gates is one of the best intros I've ever heard. Really gets me going when I hear it, and they had a great entrance worked up for the stage show: The Crimson Ghost opens up a cage at the bottom of CHUD's drumkit, as CHUD crawls out from underneath and climbs on top of the kit and begins to play, as the other members come on stage one by one. . .very cool.

The playing on this album is definitely stronger and tighter than on American Psycho, it's a very underrated album, imo.

Put me in with the surf and psychobilly crowd, too.

I like Offspring, like Pennywise, like Weezer, like Rancid, like Reel Big Fish, love Dropkick Murphys, love The Ramones, love The Strokes, NOFX are ok I guess, but I haven't heard of any of the others.

I'm glad you didn't mention Sum 41 or Blink 182 because then I would have had to kill you.

Never really got into those guys, for some odd reason...which is odd, because they're like the pride and joy of Epitath Records, one of my personal favorite labels..

Never heard of Bad Religion? My god, man...go out immediately and purchase the aforementioned "No Substance" album or their "greatest hits" compilation "All Ages"

Waitaminnit...surely you've heard at least one of their songs. Ever see the movie "Clerks"? Y'know when Randall and Dante get chased outta the funeral? On the soundtrack, Bad Religion's song "Leaders and Followers" is playing...

Oddly, I liked Sum 41's indy label effort, "Half Hour of Power"...but think they completely went to sucksville with the major label follow up, "All Killer No Filler"...now they're just MTV pop bubblegum fodder...

Britney Spears is kinda cute
We watch TRL on MTV
Everybody 3-Count, 1! 2! 3!"

It's amazing the Hurricane was able to live that down.

Ya oughta check out some of their pre-"Smash" stuff, like their self titles debut CD..."Jennifer Lost the War Today" and "Beheaded" from that disc are two of their most underrated songs...

I dig some of the stuff on the "Smash" follow-up, "Ixnay on the Hombre", and it seemed that they were going the MTV/pop/bubble-gummy route with the CD taht followed that, "Americana" (especially with songs like "Pretty Fly For a White Guy" and "Why Don't You Get a Job").

Their most recent disc (2000's "Conspiracy of One") has some decent stuff...

Didn't like Americana. Ixnay on the Hombre was ok. I have conspiracy of One at home (it was an x-mas present) but haven't really listened to it.

Ah, well... different strokes for different folks, I guess...

My favourite NOFX albums are probably "Punk In Drublic" and "Pump Up The Valuum"... tracks to look out for are...
"Leave It Alone"
"Don't Call Me White"
"Herojuana"
"Dinosaurs Will Die"

Oh..there's stuff on "Americana" that I really like, "The Kids Aren't Alright" being one of the songs I absolutely love...I think what burned me out on the album itself was the constant airplay that "Pretty Fly For A White Guy" got...I like the song, but once ya hear it 5 times a day, it gets old.

Number ten-

Fear "More Beer"

Old school punk Lee Ving did an expanded re-release of FEAR's "More Beer" album in 2001...it's kinda hard to find (released in limited quanities on a small indy label, Hall of Records . well worth it if you can find it...

Americana wasn't that bad, it was essentially an MTV pop album, though.
