The whole concept at first sounded really gay when I'd first heard about it. But as a fan of Daniel Acuna I checked it out and it's actually a decently enjoyable read. Phantom Lady's tits alone are worth the price of admisssion. The Ray and Human Bomb are pretty hardcore too. The book, like many of DC's latest offerings, have gotten me into characters that I had previously not given a fuck about.

I done reckon that any funny book which features Uncle Sam is gonna be a mighty fine read.

I thought about picking this up, but I didn't. It sounded like it could be sort of similar to Nextwave, and Nextwave is one of my favorites.

Art: A+ Story: F- Concept: Nevermind that they spent six issues building to this in Battle for Bludhaven. Nevermind that they preluded this with a bit in Brave New World. Nevermind that they set it all up in Infinite Crisis. We've STILL got to wait to the end of this first storyline to actually have the team assembled? Fuck THAT! This is pretty symptomatic of all modern, Post-IC DC books. They build and build and build....and, when the natural arc should have them finally getting there....they build some more. "All the better to take your money, my dear Red Riding Hood..." Nope. Art alone isn't worth the price of admission. Dropping this before the second issue...

I just look at it as the introductory issue. Every other supporting book that led up to it is superfluous in my opinion. If you thought the first issue alone was slow then thats fine, but to discredit its merit based on its supporting material is a bit unfair as you said, DC does that with all its books. I like that DC allows its readers supplemental material if needed. My only exposure to these characters have been a couple issues of IC and Uncle Sam #1; maybe some old school pics of Phantom Lady. . . I don't feel hosed at all.

Well, I guess after six-plus months of build-up, I was expecting to hit the ground running with this one. However, it just feels like they're wasting my time. Alot of talk, no rock...

Yeah I could feel you on that. I had no time nor emotional investment in this book going in. That Battle for Bludhaven seemed like a real snoozefest so I passed up on that. This was kinda a random pick for me that surprised me when I actually liked it.

I enjoyed it. I honestly got it first for the art (which I rarely ever do) and secondly based on the fact that the characters and whole team concept were conjured up by Grant Morrison. While reading it, I was heavily reminded of his rethinking of so many older DC characters with his work on "Seven Soldiers" which is what attracted me to that series in the first place. Based on that, I like where this title is going so far. Plus, I think that Prometheus' old-man bitterness toward all modern comics render his opinions largely moot. Either that or I've just started to ignore his bitching after all these years...

Hey, if you want to stick your head in the candy-coated, gum-drop sands and pretend everything is super-dooper-cheery good...that's up to you. Personally, I call them like I see them. Over half-a-year is more than enough time to gather together a bunch of c-list characters for a book that's probably not going to last more than a year or so...

Yeah thats the thing. 90% of the DC universe are C-listers or below. Either kill them in ultraviolent and creative way or write a halfway interesting story about them with good art. They've covered all accounts for me with these yahoos. No one eyerolled more than me when I found out that Uncle fucking Sam was getting his own series. Alas here I am singing their praises.

Wait... is this another one of those great 'Grant Morrison concepts'... like they credit him on the new Atom series?
WTF?
How is a jagoff like Morrison getting 'credit' for essentially swiping an old existing concept? 'Reimagined' my ass! If he's such a fucking great creator, why the hell doesn't he CREATE something so he to take 'credit' for it?
Fuck Morrison with a rusty hot poker. Twice.

Morrison's new job at DC is to revamp old characters. He comes up with the concepts and passes them on to a creative team to make the books. There was a link to an article about this posted here a few weeks ago.
This first issue is okay, but I'm not going to say yay or nay on it just yet. I'll have to see exactly where it's going first. If it turns out to be another "The gov't is evil and can't be trusted" paint-by-numbers story, eh! Hopefully, this team will be able to do something a little more interesting with it than that.

He's been hired to reinvent existing characters, not create new ones. Morrison creates eleven new characters every day before breakfast.
