Thanks everyone!

The interview went real well...although it was...short.

They only asked about five questions, all of which I had prepared for. Like Batman.

Whew! At least the hard part's over! Now, when do I get the corner office? I've got to put that Hawkgirl statue somewhere!

A chick who decorates just like me! Awesome.

Good luck, Ceej - I hope it works out for you.

Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Not willingly give you cookies, but instead begrudgingly give you their cookies? Woman, time to wake up to the powers you wield - Uschi

a lot of the planning involved looking at their list of skills needed and matching them up with stuff I had already done in previous jobs.

Did you have snorkeling as one of your skills?

So I called the lab today, and they said they've already made a decision. They're just waiting for this other person to call back. Which means now the only way I'm getting this job is for this person and in front of me on the list turns it down. A month delayed while they got more people to apply, whole month preping for an interview, several months waiting for an agent to do a background check...all a waste.

Thanks to everyone for their support, The lab job will reopen for applications in the beginning of next year, and my substitute teacher application is in the mail, but right now I'm just going to enjoy a good sob.

God Bless,

Jackie

I hear you, Jacks. I, too, have been struggling to find a good job for about two months now, ever since moving to South Carolina. The job market is ridiculous...

Could be worse.
I went for a job interview about 6 or 7 years ago that I thought I had a good chance of getting.
All the initial interviewing & dealings were dealt with through an agency, a stage which I got through with ease.

I then managed to get to the second stage which was an interview with the actual company I applied to work for.

I had to ride to their head office, which was an 80 mile round trip, but had to stop into the agency first (which was only a few miles from the job interview).

The guy at the agency prepped me for the interview, telling me about the woman doing the interview & what she is looking for.
He told me that she was ex-army, and was very specific about what she did & didnt want.
He also told me that if my interview only lasted half an hour or so, I had no chance, but anything over an hour meant she liked what she saw & heard.

I was in the interview for at least one hour fifteen minutes, so I was hopeful of the job.

The guy at the agency asked me to phone him after the interview, and this is where things started to go wrong.

Firstly, I couldnt get hold of him.
So I rode home, and phoned him again, but no joy!

After a week went by I phoned him again as I had heard nothing.
I managed to get hold of him & he said he hadnt spoken to the interviewer, and he would phone her then get back to me.

Another few days, and I have heard nothing, so I phone him again.
Once again, I cannot get hold of him, and I leave a message with a co-worker.
Nothing, so a few days later I do the same.
Nothing!

At this point I gave up.

The woman at the interview promised that I would hear one way or another if I did or didnt get the job, but she said that it would be the agency that would notify me!

Basically, for all I know, I was actually successful, but due to an inept agency employee, I will never know!

Months later I got a phone call from that agency asking if I was still looking for a new job.
I told the woman that I was, but had no intention of dealing with them again, and explained about the twat who I had dealt with before.
She apologised & said that would not happen again as it was her company, and I would be dealing with her direct.
I said ok then.
I never heard from them again!

I'm very sorry, Jackie. You're a good person and you deserve much better than this. Keep pushing. Don't give up. Never give up. Someone will see that you are a hard worker and a fine person, and they'll be glad they hired you. You push and keep pushing until you get exactly what you want!

Who knows, there is still a good chance that they may pick you at the lab.

And if they DON'T pick you at the lab, then the hell with 'em! You'll get a better situation.

Regardless of their decision, send some form of 'Thank You' letter (another one, not just the one you might send right after the interview). Who knows... someone they pick over you might wash out, and they may not want to go to the bother of soliciting applications again. Many employers look at that sort of thing when it comes to rescreening previous applicants (those who bothered to do a proper follow-up).
