Suppose we last for, say, 100,000,000 years. (10^8)/(5 x 10^9) = 1/10 niche= 1800, selection= 18
So, there are between 20 and 2,000 intelligent civilizations out there. Now. Among those... billions of stars... HOW will we find them?
On a further note, What if becoming a radio civilization is the trigger for extinction? What if radioactive bombs wipe out the radio civilizations almost immediately post discovery? (.....it COULD happen....) then there would be, um, zero.
