I was reading a magazine article recently where some professor or other was saying that Einstein's thoery of relativity was remarkable in that it predicted its own demise.
I hope I haven't misquoted; I think what they were saying is that Einstein's theory explains things up to a point but it doesn't work as a unified theory of everything. So really his theory is a stepping stone, as I suppose all theories ultimately are. It takes you to a certain point and provides you with a certain degree of understanding that can be used as a framework to construct a better theory.
