Actually, I thought it was great.

The first three-four seasons of Sorkin's West Wing are, by far, some of the most intelligent, witty, and downright hilarious television ever made. And, while the negative of his works tend to sometimes (sometimes...not all the time like post-Sorkin later seasons of WW) lean towards taking its subject matter a bit too seriously, I found Studio 60 to have already found the perfect balance between wit and style, glib and glam.

The camera work was superb, the pace smooth, and overall, it was a joy to see Perry and Whitford not only break out of their previous typecasting (Chandler from Friends and Josh from West Wing), but, excel in their chemistry. Those two alone have levels of charisma and talent that most television actors wish they could even touch. Together, I was uniquely surprised at how well they mesh in acting styles, scenes, and banter. Given time to go further with it, I think they could be one of television's greatest pairings.

As with the above reviewer, I also don't quite know what the infatuation is with Amanda Peet. Besides her rockin' bod, that is. But, I do know why she's on this show. She and Perry have done at least two movies together, and he's big on keeping his real-life pals close. So, no big surprise there. Still, unless she gets some meaty stories/scenes later, she's definitely the weaker link here.

Speaking of keeping friends close, I'm glad to see Sorkin kept Timothy Busfield around after West Wing. He's a great actor.

And of note, I enjoyed how NBC is actually allowing Sorkin to take the piss out of "NBS" and the obvious "Saturday Night Live" show. It'll be interesting to see how this grows.

So, all in all, I have to give this one a 9 out of 10. And, since it's the pilot, it only has two ways it can go: one notch up to perfection...or, straight to zero. We'll see...

It tends to put you immediately at a disadvantage and IMO is a sign of true weakness.
