Originally it was the Viet Cong, not the Chinese. Later it was retconned to some unnamed Asian conflict. I think the movie is going to retcon it to Afghanistan circa 2002.

Yeah. I hate to jinx things but so far it looks like they're trying to do this one right, from the casting of Downey to the recognition that the original suit was, and should be, sort of crude.
