I'm not so good on Iron Man continuity, but doesn't he build the grey one while captured by Chinese communists and have to wear it to keep his heart going? Later he switches to the swish yellow and red one?
I like it. The serial number on the chest suggests its built out of spare parts, too.

Originally it was the Viet Cong, not the Chinese. Later it was retconned to some unnamed Asian conflict. I think the movie is going to retcon it to Afghanistan circa 2002.

It's supposedly a prsctical (non cgi) shot. I'm guessing the glow on the chest, palms and eyes are probably enhanced, but that's basically a picture of a guy in the costume for the movie.
