Pirates don't use guns well. Although it can cause 5 HP damage, I wouldn't bother: your efficiency in aim is always shit. Simon, who wrote the game, made it that way.
On the face of it that's unfair, since soldiers can shoot with accuracy and natives are very accurate with blowpipes (which also have the extra bonus of slow acting poison). But pirates use cutlasses very well: your chance of your cutlass causing damage is very high. And pirates can get up to 85HP which is the highest of any character (my Durham settler, Hideo, has a mere 55 HP max). So basically pirates are tough hacking machines.
I don't even bother to carry guns: I sold two loaded rifles in Raktam recently.
I'm at the river near York, so I figure I'm a day away.

Phil, watch out for zerging. If you have two characters with the same IP in the same vicinity, the game zaps you with a curse which causes you to use AP at double the normal rate. TTT got screwed by this. Try and keep your characters away from each other (unless you're like me and have a work IP and a home IP).

With that, not only do you go from 150 moves per day to 300, but it also allows you to have two IPs on one machine!
As for cutlasses, I only get a hit every three slashes or so, plus one time, the bloody cutlass broke!

Dynamic IP. I just reboot and the router assigns me a new IP address.

That's a good idea. I should do that. Anyway, we've been invited by the Jolly Roger Gang to invade York, which will be happening between 25-28 Novemeber. Here is a map:  I personally intend to stay as long as possible, declare myself governor, kill as many locals as possible, and eventually get assassinated. I suggest you do the same thing. We can all be governors together.

Yeah, I gather it will be fairly chaotic. When Son of Mxy first joined it was in the last time there was a pitched battle in York, and he got skewered within seconds. Killing other players gets you high XPs, which is something to think about.

Yeah they snap every now and again so it pays to have a few on you. I bought five the last time I was at the shipwreck, and now I'm down to 2. I have a couple of machetes though as back-up just in case.
Your ability to accurately hit with a cutlass improves once you get melee skills, and body-building. Its a rare day I miss more than once, and hardly ever twice in a row.

Other mmos don't give out any xp if the player kills an opponent that's way below his current level. This game encourages bullying.

Okay Foreman got killed. He's in Derby now. I went inside the Trader's Hut and am going to leave him in there overnight.
Prometheus is in spirit form wandering the jungle. When I have enough AP, I'll reincarnate him at his home.
So, I checked out the Uber Map thing. Can't tell a fucking thing from it. Where should Foreman (in Derby) go to meet up with you guys on the island? Northeast? East?

If you're in Derby, you're about 3-5 days travel from York. Derby is in the far east. So travel due west, but noting initially you have to make your way around a bay. Eventually you'll hit a river. Follow the river south to some grasslands, and York is south-south-west from the grasslands.
If you get killed enroute, reincarnate yourself at a romaing shaman, so you can keep travelling. Either that or travel as a spirit so you can't get attacked.

bw7 (Sam Bellamy) and I by coincidence in the swamp about 50 clicks away from York. I got caught up being attacked by a wild boar. We'll definitely be in town tomorrow. I'll see you all in Czechy's Tavern.
I've started two native/cannibal characters. Courtesy of Frank Cho, their images look like extremely busty cave women, wearing very little. My theory is that male players will be less inclined to kill them. Already my theory has proven to be correct.
SoM seems to be in some trouble somewhere with low HP, but he's not sure where he is. I've directed him east, rather than join us in York, as he's looking for a river to recuperate. Hopefully he'll hit the river, or one of my natives will find him and try to help him out.
Apparently the pirates are having some sort of gladiatorial contest at the ruins due south of the shipwreck, with immunity to all of the audience. I think its a distraction since there is a big attack on York planned for 22 -25 December.
Glad you like the Regimental Roll Call. Alts are lower ranked, obviously. Phil, I'd have made you a Colonel too, but being a Captain made obvious sense.

Oh that attack is November, not December. I gather its a cooperative effort by both the major pirate clans - being the Jolly Roger Gang and the Scurvy Crew of the Hellspawned Strumpet - plus us.
It basically involves chopping up the locals, reincarnating to the nearest roaming shaman if hit, and then slogging back to York. (One of my cannibal babes is en route, too, to help).
