SoM, as you travel, search at the same time. That way you'll stock up on stuff you can exchange at a trader's hut, including a new cutlass. First Amongst Daves is having a snooze in the ocean off the coast of York until my APs build up. I'm not entering York unless I have enough APs to kick some heads if need be, and the shoreline has multiple Yorkers. Dappled Shadow is on her way to York, too. Quote:

For everyone else, its standing immediately in the batsman's swing, half way up the pitch. Its a bloody stupidly dangerous place to stand, but puts the badsman under immense pressure if the fielder has quick reflexes.

I'm down to about 6 APs right now. Some arse will probably kill me overnight, even though its supposed to be a safehouse (Order of Patriots idiots kill pirates and mercenaries on sight in York). If that happens I'll reincarnate nearby and go sleep in the shallow water out of sight until the mayhem starts in a few days.

As anticipated, an Order of Patriots fuckwit killed me. Anyone sees Mr Bungle, kill him. I'll be waiting to build up APs to contact the local roaming shaman, then I'll be back in town hunting the bastard.

BTW, how do you get "rifle training"? Dagwood is a soldier, and I was thinking about beefing him up. Once he's up a few levels, I'd send him off as an assassin for the Privateers to hunt down Mr. Bungle. Any tips?

You build up experience to the point that you get to a new level, and get rifle training. You probably need to go up 3 levels - each level requires 25 more XP than the previous one. So, go deer hunting in the surrounds of York, or attack your fellow citizenry (although that leaves you with the rep of being a PKer and you'd probably not be welcome in the tavern or elsewhere in York).
Bear in mind that when you kill a player or animal, you not only get the XP for the attack, but extra bonus XP upon their death. Successfully attacking gets easier the higher you go by level.

BTW, Kristofer Schanz is about to name the island just south of Derby "New Maastricht" in honour of Queen Laura, but although he has two pieces of driftwood for a sign, he have nothing to write with (no cutlass or machete, just a rifle). Would a knife work for writing on it?

I don't think you need a knife - there should be a button which says "Write signpost" or something right of screen. I may be wrong on this though since I've always had a knife.
My understanding was that was called "Derby Island", but I'm sure Laura will be impressed. Schanz should join the Imperials, of course.

I had the problem when I tried to make a sign and had no cutlass or knife!

I'm moving my alts out there to populate it. It'll be a long walk (especially for Hideo, who is over in Durham). As I said at incandescent, there is some serious talking about introducing wall building and maintenence. So we should get ready to start building walls there. A labyrinth, anyone?
(The alternative I suppose,, TTT, is to come out to Rodrigo Island and build walls there. Alex Rodrigo, a high level player, is dead keen to build up a population, and heals you if you get harmed. We could call a town at the dockyards "New Maastricht".)

I received word today that York will be getting empty in or about 1 December as the Colonial Police, the Mercenaries Guild and a bunch of others rush to durham to defend the place.
I plan to use the time to hunt the Order of Patriots and stick up driftwood signs asserting our dominion over the township. So everyone should get their arse a day's walk from York. I suggest massing at the grasslands 40 clicks northeast of York (where the river ends).

This AP system is whack! All I wanted to do was kill someone and I could hardly get any hits in. I just kept attacking and attacking. Finally the APs run out.

York is due east. Look at the Ubermap:
See the brown bits at the western end of the peninsula to the west of the island? Its in a bit from the big beach. That's Durham, where there is going to be a big shitfight with headhunters in December. (Hideo Inakajimita is on one of the islands above that, the bigger one of the two little ones, which is called Rodrigo Island, and TTT's character Henry Quantos is nearby too.)
Then there is a long line leading east. That's a road, which goes to York, but its overgrown under the lake there. You see a big light brown patch in the south, that's York, where Rotten Balls and Prometheus are in the tavern.
Up the coast from York there is a dark brown patch, which is a swamp, with soem yellow bits which are grasslands. 1stAD is up the river there a bit, having reincarnated nearby after his assassination in the tavern.
The big black blob in the middle is the mountain. My two native characters are on either side of the mountain, one of which is heading to York for the big pirate attack in December, and the other to TTT's new island.
The shipwreck is way to the north where all that brown stuff is. The tiny black speck is the wreck.
The brown dots in the middle are native villages: heading left to right, Dalpok, Raktam and Wiksik. Way over to the east and at the bottom of the peninsula is Derby. One of TTT's characters just claimed the island below it.
So the first plan is to get to York and raise hell. After that send a character go over to TTT's new island to populate it and kill off any bastard who comes near it.

Pariah, wander down the coast a bit and you'll see Prometheus and then a little further down the coast Ibn al Xuffasch (me). Ibn is ostensibly heading to the island south of York, but really I'm just trying to get XPs so I'm of some use if we choose to attack York. Rotten Balls (Nowhereman) is in a hut in the north of the township. Quote:

FirstAmongstDaves just saw Nowherehowdy at the shaman at the wreck. Did some good business at the traders hut - got 7 cutlasses, and 2 more first aid kits.
EllaChen (SoM) is around at the wreck somewhere too.
There is a boxing match on Sunday at the ruins to the south of the island, which I might check out before moving down to Durham to join the war against the Wiksik headhunters. The headhunters are having a tournament to see who can get the most heads in Durham (the prize is a heavy sword, which are very rare), and it seems everyone is heading there to kill them.
