Best place to hide, nowie, is in the ocean. Go out far enough so you can't be seen from the shore, but not into the dark blue water because the sharks will eat you.

I tried to cut a deal with the Colonial Police so we didn't attack each other. They knocked it back, so its on, kids. Let cause trouble in York.

The island TTT and myself are on is close enough to York that we can hit the place with APs to spare, but far enough that nobody will trace us back there easily. It'd be a great place to set up shop for raids.

Or are you on the island south of York?

I searched and wound up with eleven pieces of driftwood.

It's fun to get wood.

What should I do with all this?

'Twasn't me. Kristofer Schanz is in the nearby river regaining HP.

Try recruiting the guy, though. I've done that before.

I'd hang onto it. There is a very good possibility the game's owner will shortly be allowing people to create rafts or boats.

Otherwise, make 5 signposts I guess, laying claim to the island.

For those in the vicinity of the shipwreck there is a guy called Long Fin Killie, a notorious pirate hunter, in the ship's hold. I'm trying to chop him up but I've run out of APs.

Do I go down to the left or down to the right?

I have no sense of direction, so it's a especially hard for me to interpret a digital map that I can't even all the way see.

Down and to the right. Follow the coast along: its about 30-50 squares along. There is lots of traffic along that stretch of coast so watch out for trouble. York sits right on the water.

Long Fin Killie got chopped up by someone else he murdered.

This...uh...'game'(?) really sucks. I created a character when you guys started this thread and dicked around with it for all of ten minutes or so. I hated it.

So I log back in today, figuring that maybe I was too quick to judge...but, no. I logged on to find my character dead. Had to summon a shaman or some shit. And then after walking about for a bit, it told me I couldn't do shit all anymore until the next day.

Lame.

I hated it at first, too. Couldn't see any point to it. Somewhere along the way I began enjoying it. Not sure when or why. Maybe it was the learning process that did it for me. It's definitely not for everyone.

Does dying have any effect on your character long term?
Nowherehowdy & Rotten Balls are together so I was thinking I might let them kill eachother to get my XP up!

If you do that, make sure to use different proxy servers for each character, or you'll get caught "zerging" and will be hit with a terrible disease in which each of your characters will have double AP points used up for every single action they make.

An easier way of building up your XP is to get a bottle or gourd of water, fill and drink repeatedly with salt water at the mouth of the river until your HP is low, then go to the fresh water of the river and fill and drink repeatedly until your HP is high again. This will give you XP very quickly and will enable you to begin gaining various skills and rise to different levels.

Also kill any natives you see. Or soldiers, explorers, scientists, settlers, fellow pirates... basically anyone who looks at you funny.

If you have a gold coin, you can buy sharpening stones at the Trader's Hut that will keep your blade nice and sharp.

Its not until the first level really that you start to have some fun with it. Before that, its frustrating because you have no fucking idea where you are, and can't kill anything because you're uselessly inept as you have no skills. I was in the water for a week pounding someone to death with my fists because I'd broken a cutlass and had no idea how to get a new one, then someone came along and healed us both. I felt like throwing the computer agaisnt the wall.

My main character is now level 11 and while not King Shit like backwards 7's characters who are all stone cold killers and around level 23, its still good to have the ability to chop up your opponents as you find them very quickly. I worked out the main way to get new skills is to strat killing as many animals and hostile people as possible. Even if you don't kill them, and get killed yourself, at least you'll move up the ladder quickly (Son of Mxy tries drinking salt water to get his XPs up but to me this is a less than fun way of playing).

The metagaming aspect is good too - all the clans have message boards so you can hurl abuse or cut deals between clans, and the Unofficial Shartak Forum also has a lively metagaming aspect to it.

The other good thing is bumping into you guys in game and having a chat. Its almost - but not at all really - like we're in the same locality. Ganging up on people as a group will be good too once we get our shit together and act in concert. York especially will be good since me, Prometheus, Nowhereman, and backwards 7 are all within yelling distance of the place about ready to make trouble. Capn Sammitch and TTT on the island is cool, and TTT and another one of my characters are on another island too. Son of Mxy and yet another one of my characters (my main one) are in close proximity near the shipwreck.

The 75AP limit is a pain but you get used to it, and prevents me at least from sitting on the damn game all day.

klinton, if you let me know where your character is I can hook up with you and give you some gold coins to buy a cutlass or whatever. I did this with TTT when he firrt started playing which I think might have helped.

Killing is relatively easy for Timothy Trust now that he's at level 7. It's a far cry from breaking a cutlass while swinging futilely at a monkey on his first day. I think his next step is to gain healing powers.

Why can I only give gold coins?
I had a blunt cutlass & wanted to give it to another of my characters who had no cutlass, but had a sharpening stone, but there was no option!

You can't directly give any object but a gold coin to another character, but one character CAN drop an object at a spot for another character to pick up... theoretically, at least. I've never tried it.

I'm down to 1 HP with no APs. There's a boar with 1 HP in the quad to my left.

Do I have any options here at all? Furthermore, is that boar gonna come after me?

LOL. You should have punched him with your fist. (Low strike rate though.) Hopefully he can't track you, but you should jump into the water just in case (can't see tracks through water).

Your APs will build up but its hard to come back from 1HP, so you'll probably die soon from something. You then get reincarnated with full HPs. The boar is unlikely to chase you (tigers do). I'd attack the boar in the hope of XPs, allow yourself to get killed and reincarnate with full HPs.

Nowie, I had guessed that you couldn't pick up something someone else had dropped. Get yourself killed (go wrestle a tiger, as Ibn al Xuffasch just did to get up XPs, and got promptly killed) and reincarnate, so you'll be near the traders hut.

Someone called Vlad the Inhaler is dropping by here to say hello at some stage. He's a guy from the game who has joined the Imperials.

The Durham Pistolleers have extended an invitation to get involved in the defence against the headhunters, so for those who don't wish to ransack York, you should get bums westward ho.

Ibn al Xuffasch strode into the Colonial Police hut, bid everyone hello, and walked out again. When he gets enough AP, he's going to walk back in there and punch everyone in the face, just once, by way of a bitchslap.
