It's not so much using humor as much as it is making clear a parallel in ideology, a dangerous one.
Isn't it a fact that in 1939, Nazi Germany began a euthanization program, killing the senile elderly, the physically disabled, and the mentally retarded ? They even first experimented with Zyklon B gas in this euthanization, later used at Auschwitz.
Isn't it a fact that this lack of regard for human life began a slippery slope that progressed to mass extermination of Jews, Gypsies and Slavs ? To the point that by war's end the Germans had no problem exterminating whole towns in France, and slaughtering French, British and American soldiers that earlier in the war they treated well, as racial equals ?
It's a dangerous mindset. Make it okay to exterminate one group of human beings, and it becomes more acceptable to kill any other group.
