Bleeding? Then you must hold your eyes closed with a tissue and lean forward for five minutes. If it's still bleeding when you uncover it, you must go see a doctor! The only thing worse than a computer that makes your eyes bleed is if you also have epilepsy and play the Wily stages of Mega Man 2 in the dark! Always turn the lights on and take frequent eye breaks.

Nothing major. Just the Dell E521.

  • AMD 64X Dual Core at 2GHZ
  • I upped it to 2 GB of RAM
  • 160 GB Hard Drive (I figured I could always up it later)
  • NVidia Geoforce 7300 Graphics Card
  • Soundblaster HD Soundcard
  • Firewire Port
  • 19" Flat Panel Monitor

The rest is pretty standard. My old computer was dying on me. I just needed something new. I took the Free Vista Upgrade option. I just gotta send them 10 bucks, and they'll ship me Vista when it comes out. I'm just going to hold on to it until the first service patch comes out before I decide to install it.

Yay! That's a pretty good system; about as good a system built by someone else as you can affordably get. I already promised myself that I wouldn't buy myself another computer built by somebody else.

I considered building, but it was easier time wise and financially to buy from Dell. Here's a hint for those of you with bad credit: Don't pay shit for about five or six years, and they'll start just throwing decent credit offers at ya. Trust me on this.

That's the beauty of the modern age. I can just run down to the Best Buy or Circuit City and grab a 300 GB hard drive to slap in for about $130.

Why? Worried about potential "bugs" in Vista, or something like that? I'm curious, because I'm waiting until February to buy a new computer so I can get one with Vista.

The retail version of Vista comes out of January 30th, but most computer manufacturers have the final version and are already installing it on their systems. If its not already installed they are offering a free upgrade at the end of January.

4 Reasons Why Windows Vista Is Just Not Worth It

Microsoft’s Windows Vista vulnerable to malware from 2004

Vista's EULA product activation worries

Basically, I'm buying her a computer to take to college and I don't want to buy her one with an untested system which if it crashes will, invariably, result in several frantic phone calls and her mother giving me the stinkeye.

As noted in the first article, there aren't really a lot of significant advantages over XP in Vista for the average person and, given Mircosoft's history of rolling out crap with their initial releases, I figure stick with XP for now.

Sad thing about Vista is, Bill Gates doesn't care if it's a piece of shit or not. He knows most people will buy it. I only started using XP last August and it works great. I'm sticking with it.

Ditto!

I went from using windows 98 ( Which was not as vulnerable to attacks. ) to XP, which has had it's problems.

XP seems to have ironed out some of it's weaknesses, but I heard bad things about it when first introduced.

I only got XP when I realized 98 was incompatible with most AV programs, etc.

I do like features of XP that 98 did not have.

indeed. though i don't trust a good portion of their reviews CNET seemed to overall like Vista.

Depends on what you're doing with your computer. Certain programs can take up a decent chunk of space. Me, I have a 120GB hard drive. I intend on loading it with music videos and Venture Brothers.
