there aren't really a lot of significant advantages over XP in Vista for the average person and, given Mircosoft's history of rolling out crap with their initial releases, I figure stick with XP for now.

Jason E. Perkins said:
For every pundit extolling Vista's virtues, there's another warning users not get their hopes up, at least until the operating system has been out for a while and undergoes the inevitable updates.

"There's no one compelling feature within Windows Vista that cries out to switch over," writes Robert Vamosi, an editor for the widely read technology website CNet.com, in his review of Vista.

Dell casts doubts on Vista

Dell today revealed that it will restore the option to use Windows XP on some of its home systems, marking a potentially damaging blow to Microsoft's hopes for the newer Windows Vista. The Dimension E520 and E521 as well as virtually all of the company's Inspiron notebooks can immediately be custom-ordered with XP in Home or Professional editions, giving cautious buyers the opportunity to use the earlier OS.

The change in policy was the result of user feedback.

The turnaround may be a reflection of an overall backlash against Vista, observed IDC analyst Richard Shim.

"That there is remaining demand from some segment of consumer market points to the inability of Vista to resonate with consumers," he said. The researcher noted that the sales spike for Vista may have been buyers waiting to buy their normal PC upgrades rather than a genuine climb in interest.

It is precisely because of user feedback... and the issues
that XP had at first that I won't buy VISTA.

Not till I hear that it has improved.

I bought XP several years after it was first introduced, and it still had issues.. those security patches, etc...It seems to be much better now.

One more instance where it is best to read user feedback before buying upgrades for your computer.
