Also, if you really want a no-nonsense introduction to biblical Christianity without too much heady theological stuff, I would strongly recommend C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity. Actually, I would recommend that book to just about anyone regardless, but primarily for that. It's eminently simple and yet absolutely ingenious at the same time.
