We encounter assholes everyday, whether at work, at home, at a social event, on the road, or on the web. But what makes a person an asshole? I'm not asking for the motavation behind being an asshole, but rather what your perception of an asshole is.

Here is an asshole :
Someone who throws something at you in public.
Someone who calls you faggot in public when he is with his friends, just to impress them.
Someone who betrays a friend over money.
Someone who beats up on their wife and kids.
Someone who lies and says he'll come and visit you for the weekend, then does not show up and never calls to explain why he never showed up.
Someone who sends people to try to kill you.
A parent who does not listen to their own child.
A child who is mean to a parent.
A salesman who sells you crap and then won't take the crappy thing back when you ask for a refund.
Someone who steals stuff from you.
Someone who lies to you.
Someone who hurts your pets.
Someone who does all manner of crazy things just to hurt you.

A person who ignores everyone if they're with their spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend, and makes passes at everyone and everything at the same place (with the same people) when they're alone.
People who are too pussy like to set ground rules for their spoiled kids and expect us to play along. When we say "no" out of habit the kid screams bloody murder, these so-called parents give us dirty looks.
Those are the kind of assholes that really make shit happen.

Drama queens and posers annoy me, I've had my fill of them in this life. I refuse to put up with moody people...unless of course they have a good reason to be moody. However what makes these people assholes is how easy it comes (to some, not all) for them to use their fake nature to make themselves look "cool". Or in the case of the drama queens, to betray someone they might consider to be a close friend. Ultimately I do feel sorry for them. Whether they're self absorbed or just stuck in high school, in the end they are the ones that will be completely alone.
Oh, an asshole is also one that puts SPOILERS at the end of his post.

I think everyone has the potential to be an asshole. The term is bandied about too liberally, encompasing anyone who doesn't bend to our wishes.
Being or percieving an asshole merely requires a moment in time where your will and that of someone else clash.

Klint, I can go with that to a degree, but as we all know, there are many people out there who are BIGTIME assholes on a daily basis!
They either know they are assholes and don't give a shit, or they don't know because they think that their own feces
are not aromatic.
Many of them seem to enjoy being assholes. These are the ones who love to insult steal, beat up, and ruin the lives of others.
I believe there are varying degrees of asshole - ness, too.
