But shortly thereafter TPTB decided to return him to his lapdog-heel-cry-like-a-baby role, and he never recovered. When he won the WCW title, he showed the potential to be the next American hero, following in Hogan's foot steps. He could have carried the company as a face, instead of becoming a stepping stone for Edge (before he got hurt, when he was paired with Hogan), and others like him.
