Honestly, I was just taking a friendly jab at you; but since we're discussing it....

There is a big difference between changing the car in knight rider, to the helicopter in Air Wolf.
Air Wolf was more grounded in reality, with the copter being cutting edge at the time, and a lot of the stuff it did was real (they had gotten info from the military, but were not allowed to discuss what was & wasnt real).

Yes, a supersonic helicopter is very grounded in reality. Airwolf may not have had a talking computer AI or near indestructible vehicles, but it was still very 80's TV fantasy.

With Knight Rider, the car was not the "inovation" it was all the tech that was added!

So....... the car wasn't what was really important then, huh?

For instance, the dash display on a new Knight Rider would have to change as the puter tech in the real world has advanced so far since the 80s,

But automobile design and construction hasn't?

The helicopter in Air Wolf would look a little silly being a "one of a kind" super helicopter if it looked older than current models!

Wouldn't you say the same thing about a "one of a kind" super car with a 20+ year-old body design?

The fact is that you have to look at the purpose of the vehicle in the story. A 1969 Dodge Charger will always work for the General Lee because even when the original show hit the air, that model was already a decade old. It fit in then and now with the common practice of the redneck South to find and rebuild old cars, especially the old muscle cars of the late 60's/early 70's(Dodges even more so because of the crazy MOPAR cult). The same for Starsky and Hutch because a Gran Tarino would convey the same kind of cool image in an updated version as it did in the original show (I'd even go to say even more so due to Starsky and Hutch making the Tarino a cool car). It's all about the image that the vehicle gives the character(s).

For that reason, an updated A-Team couldn't use the same old GMC van because vans don't carry the same 'cool factor' now as it did then. An update would more than likely have to use an Escalade or other high end SUV. This is doubly so for vehicles that are supposed to be technologically superior to anything else for the exact same reason you described. It'd look silly using an outdated design.

But this is where you overlook everything I say!
The whole point of Knight Rider was that the tech was put into an existing car so that it blended in.
A Pontiac Firebird was not a one of a kind car!
The copter in Air Wolf was sposed to be unique from the outta shell inwards!

The reason I believe that KITT should be a Trans Am is because the car itself was iconic, and the star of the show.
Change the car to anything else, like they did in the tv movie, and it just isnt Knight Rider, its a car that does stuff!

With Air Wolf, an update of that necessitates a new model copter as nobody is gonna design a one of a kind machine military machine (cause that was what it was designed for) that is way behind current aerodynamics etc.

With Knight Rider (the original series) they could have easily stuck KITT in a far older car if they wanted to as the shell was not sposed to be "one of a kind" or look like it was anything more than a normal car!

As for your picking up on my "grounded in reality" comment.
Once again you thoughtfully chose to overlook the point where I said that some of (nowhere did I say all) of the tech was actually based on top secret tech of the time, that was provided by the military!
Grounded in reality does not mean there wasnt some degree of fantasy, it just means that unlike Knight Rider, which at the time, was 100% fantasy, some of Air Wolf was based very much on real technology!
