But this is where you overlook everything I say!
The whole point of Knight Rider was that the tech was put into an existing car so that it blended in.
A Pontiac Firebird was not a one of a kind car!
The copter in Air Wolf was sposed to be unique from the outta shell inwards!

As PenLee pointed out, Airwolf used a civilian body style to escape recognition as a military craft. Hence the hidden guns and rocket launcher. So, the same rules would apply.

The reason I believe that KITT should be a Trans Am is because the car itself was iconic, and the star of the show.
Change the car to anything else, like they did in the tv movie, and it just isnt Knight Rider, its a car that does stuff!

I understand your reasoning. I just disagree with it. It wasn't the fact that KITT was a Trans Am that made it uber cool. It was a combination of everything together. The car could have been a Corvette or even a pick-up truck. That show really was about the technology and utility of the vehicle. On top of that, KITT was a character itself with a dialogue and chemistry with all other characters involved, including the occasional rivalry with the comic relief hot rodder or car thief. Ignoring a translation because of use of a different body style is, in my opinion, just the haze of an all-night nostalgia buzz fogging up your vision. The problem with the TV movie was plot as I had no problems with the prototype car or even putting KITT into a Chevy Nomad.

It tends to put you immediately at a disadvantage and IMO is a sign of true weakness.
