Can't you just archive most of the older posts (even sending a copy to those who care to have such a thing) and then take them out of the loop? I mean...it's fun and all that they are still there, but if it'll make things run more smoothly they aren't essential. Pretty much anything said in here isn't really worth keeping around for longer than the conversation lasts.
