Is that the one that Mignola pencilled?
Newsarama has a larger version of the pic and upon a better inspection, the Batman shown isn't from an Elseworlds Annual, but from the Elseworlds tale "Dark Knight of the Round Table".At least that's my best non-educated guess which may or may not prove to be wrong.

My guess is that the Batman shown in that image resides on an Earth Elseworlds while Kyle and Donna will reside on their respective Earth. Also, it'd be neat if some of the characters recently killed (Beetle, Question, etc) end up living on an alternate Earth.

Is that the Human Torch lying there next to Max Lord?
HA!
Superman looks like he's staring down Wondy's cleavage. Silly man, that's why you have X-ray vision.
Bats must be Ibn al Xuffasch.

DC has released what appears to be a teaser image with no information attached other than the subject line of an e-mail: "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction..."
Which obviously accounts for the weepy Superman, but not really someone wearing the Red Robin costume from Kingdom Come, or the dashing, pantsuit Batman (from an Elseworlds, perhaps, or freshly back from a relaxing desert trip where he found himself?)
Oh - and bodies, bodies, bodies...Max Lord, Beetle, Jade, and The Question...?
(note: may or may not be related to WW3)

I don't like seing Jade dead. She was always one of my favorite Dc characters, ever since the debut of Infinity Inc, in 1983.

I thought it was from some sort of "pirate Batman" elseworlds.
But I dont know. There's been so many of those goddam Elseworld Batman stories that I really cant be arsed to keep track of them all.
Or, let's face it, its any one of the above EW Batmen and the artist just didn't bother to get the proper reference

The sword in the original picture is Arabian looking, so I am betting its an Arabian Knights type thing!
The sword in that picture is very much like a scimitar where as knights tended to use broadswords, and pirates cutlasses!

Probably try to entice a black man into his house with the cookies, then use chloroform on the tissues to knock him out and have his wicked way with him!

Yes, but as I said, who knows if the artist bothered to refer to the original story art as reference.
But as I said, the sword is arabian in its styling, and the more I look at it, so is the costume! I reckon it has something to do with Rhas!

Let's see (lots of symbolism in this picture)...
First off, the link to this picture from Newsarama says it's for WWIII.
Second, Kingdom Come Earth was one of the Earths that Alex Luthor mixed in with the post-CoIE Earth that resulted in the creation of New Earth at the end of IC #6 before he was finished creating his "perfect" Earth (which is why characters like Offspring, Zatara, Miss Martian, Starman, etc. are part of the New Earth timeline).
So that explains Red Robin (whoever it might be...)
We know Batman has been on a journey of self discovery in the Middle East during 52/the missing year (plus we know that some Bat-Elseworlds have been worked into continuity/the New Earth timeline (like the Ten-eyed Man and Batman's illegitimate son Damien) by Grant Morrison in both 52 and Batman respectively).
So that explains the Bat-Sultan get-up.
We know Bart returns all alone after spending 4 years on another Earth with Barry's costume (which allows him to control the Speed Force OYL).
It was S.T.A.R. Labs that altered Barry's costume to look more like Wally's OYL.
I don't think Kyle's wearing a yellow ring. I just think it's a coloring mistake (like the way Blue Beetle's belt buckle and Kyle's Ion symbol are miscolored).
And considering that Kyle and Donna are tied into the Monitors somehow OYL that explains why they are "looking to the skies..."
In the last few issues of 52, we saw a glimpse of regret from Ollie after Dinah leaves for Asia to undergo Shiva's training (following her own path).
So that explains the look Ollie's giving Dinah while she's looking off in her own different direction.
We've seen Barda OYL without Scott, and the way he's saddened by the deaths of his close friends Ted and Max (who he is directly looking at in this picture) I get the feeling this results in Scott leaving Earth and his past there behind him for good OYL (in order to "escape" his feelings about it).
When it comes to Supes and Wondy, I believe their presence in this picture is symbolic of how powerless/helpless they are during the missing year/52/WWIII (besides, it's not like DC would release a promotional piece featuring Diana Prince and Clark Kent).
And we know the P-Zone projector and The Question dying are big parts of 52/the missing year.
Looks to me like WWIII is really going to shake up DC OYL.

Dan Didio answers 20 questions about the mysterious DC teaser image
Matt Brady - Newsarama.com
Quote:
Dan Didio said:“Before we begin I’d like to thank all the fans on these boards and the other message boards out there who decided to play along and try and decipher the mysteries behind this piece. And let me be the first one to say, the fans delivered! They found nearly every clue we had hidden, even better, they were 70-75% correct in their speculations. Of course, which ones were correct and where they were posted, I can’t really say, as a matter of fact, in keeping with the spirit of the mystery and hidden messages, my following responses might not be… satisfactory to those looking for absolutes (that’s answers, not collected editions).
“I’ll try my best to be helpful, but you should know by now, I hate giving too much away. So with that in mind, let’s begin….”
1) First off – and asked multiple times – this image was clearly based on the promotional image generated for The Sopranos. Why? What was it about those characters, or the coming drama that mapped out to the DCU?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Actually there were several inspirations for the piece and each character was chosen because of their importance to upcoming storylines in the DC Universe. This is not about one book or one story but about the major events that will unfold throughout the year.
2) What’s the device near Max Lord’s body? If not “what” how about it’s place of origin?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Not really sure of its origin but it looks like it was built by the King himself. All I know is that it can light the road to hell or salvation depending on your point of view.
3) Why isn’t Superboy (Conner) among the dead bodies? You do know he’s not Supernova, right?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Superboy isn’t Supernova??!!? Damn, I’ve been waiting for the collected edition of 52 to read it and now you just ruined it for me! If I was to guess, we were probably going through all our major deaths alphabetically and just ran out of space after Q.
4) Assuming these are the major heroic players of what's being teased, who would be featured if this image were showing the major villainous players of what’s to come?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Wouldn’t it be great if we did another piece that featured just as many mysteries around our greatest villains?
5) Is that the ever-lovin’ Blue Eyed Barry Allen as the Flash?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
If that was Barry, shouldn’t he be lying on the ground with the dead instead of standing with the heroes?
6) Does the positioning of the characters have meaning? Can you give an example?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Physical separation can also represent emotional separation or distance. It also can represent separate storylines. Where you stand and how you stand can determine your ultimate future. There are no accidents in positioning, body or gaze. Light and shadow also play a role.
7) When will we know definitely what this pic is about?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Events reflected in this picture will play throughout the year and hopefully things will make sense enough so that you can connect the dots as they occur.
8) Are all the assembled characters from the same Earth?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Yes, they are all from the same Earth. But let me say, as the sighs of relief and the gasps of disapproval die down, some of these images are literal and some are symbolic, I leave it to you to figure out which is which.
9) Why the tagline "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction..."? With this great destruction and moving on to Act III will we see a third Crisis to go along with Identity & Infinite?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Funny thing, I was told that the quote came from the Book of Jeremiah; I thought it was from the book of Genesis.
10) Are all pieces of this larger image meant to be taken literally?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
As I mentioned above, there is a literal and symbolic reason for the positioning and clothing of our heroes.
11) When will Superman stop being all emo and crying at bad turns of events? He was raised by Midwesterners – folks not known for showing emotion among their menfolk… John Wayne came from Iowa, Gary Cooper came from Montana, Henry Fonda came from Nebraska…not a weepy Willy among the bunch. Can we at least see another hero look at Superman crying and say, “girl”?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
You Guys Got Me On This One. Crisis On Infinite Earths #7, Wonder Woman #175 (I think?) and Identity Crisis #1. Twice Superman cried on a cover, once inside, that’s three times that I know of over twenty years. Unless I am missing a whole lot of times, this statement seems a bit extreme. I am sure there or a bunch of guys ready to correct me if I am wrong but be that as it may, if Superman cries, there has to be a real good reason for it.
13) Why is Donna in her Wonder Girl uniform?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
The color is important key to her future and her allegiance.
14) Is that Ray Palmer’s arm?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
It’s the Atom’s arm alright, the question is, is he climbing out or sinking in.
15) Why is Mary Marvel in the picture, isn't she suppose to be depowered in the Trials of Shazam series?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
These pictures reflect events yet to come, so it sounds to me like there is a story with Mary that is about to be told.
16) What is up with Batman in that picture and why does he have a sword? Is that Bruce Wayne from the same Earth that Batman and Detective are set on?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
The image is symbolic in natural and it is indeed the Batman you are reading now. As for the sword, it’s not the first time he used one.
17) Why are so many of the characters in the image looking up?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Something coming down from the skies perhaps?
18) Whose flight ring is on the ground?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
A Legionnaire’s, of course.
19) Why are all the dead characters melting/phasing into the ground?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Symbolic in nature, the ground gave up the bodies but not completely as to confuse anyone that these characters might return.
20) Is there anything about this picture we were supposed to notice, but haven't yet? How much of the secret(s) of this picture could we determine just from it and what we've already seen? Is something coming up soon that might give us clues relevant to the picture?
Quote:
Dan Didio said:
Like I said at the start, with all the keen eyes analyzing this piece nearly all the mysteries, from the ground they stand on to the distant skyline, have been recognized. We have some great stories heading your way, and I think it would be a disaster if we gave them away now. I’m counting down to when we can finally talk about this, but until then, keep the ideas and speculation coming, after all getting there is half the fun.
All the best,
DD
*P.S. I would like to pick out one question and answer it directly, to poster “Sean McKeever”, “yes” its good to know who Batman is and “no” that will not be enough to get you through the next couple of years. My suggestion is that you read that box of comics we send you every month and then we’ll talk.

In keeping with the spirit of me being the worlds most evil jackass, my following responses might be… disturbing.
“I try my best to be pleasant, but you should know by now, I hate every person on the fucking planet. So with that in mind, let’s begin….”

6) Does the positioning of the characters have meaning? Can you give an example?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Ask your mom about the significance of positioning. I taught her all about it last night
7) When will we know definitely what this pic is about?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: You? When the devil has to dodge winged pigs as he's ski jumping.
8) Are all the assembled characters from the same Earth?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Is your ass from the same zip code as the rest of your body?
9) Why the tagline "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction..."? With this great destruction and moving on to Act III will we see a third Crisis to go along with Identity & Infinite?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Funny thing, your mom said the same thing last night.
10) Are all pieces of this larger image meant to be taken literally?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Honestly, what's the point of telling you? You couldn't find your enormous ass with both hands and a flashlight

Dan Didio said: Just wait, I'm gonna have Superman wearing a tutu that looks just like yours, twinkletoes.
13) Why is Donna in her Wonder Girl uniform?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Because your Wonder Girl uniform doesn't fit her.
14) Is that Ray Palmer’s arm?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Is it up your ass? Then, no.
15) Why is Mary Marvel in the picture, isn't she suppose to be depowered in the Trials of Shazam series?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Why don't you just shoot yourself in the head if shit like this matters to you?
16) What is up with Batman in that picture and why does he have a sword? Is that Bruce Wayne from the same Earth that Batman and Detective are set on?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: I'm gonna feed you into a woodchipper, you worthless piece of crap.
17) Why are so many of the characters in the image looking up?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: It's bettet than looking at you, you ugly son of a bitch.
18) Whose flight ring is on the ground?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Whoever it is is going to need a new one after I make you eat it.
19) Why are all the dead characters melting/phasing into the ground?
Quote:
Dan Didio said: Fuck you. OK? Just, fuck you.
20) Is there anything about this picture we were supposed to notice, but haven't yet? How much of the secret(s) of this picture could we determine just from it and what we've already seen? Is something coming up soon that might give us clues relevant to the picture?

*P.S. I would like to pick out one question and answer it directly, to poster “Sean McKeever”, You'd better be waiting in my office in your Batgirl outfit by the time I get back.
Man, Dan DiDio's kind of a dick.

Shit, I hope a Legionairre won't die. They've already killed off several of them so many times, that they make Jesus look like a beginner at coming back from the dead!

I hope it won't be Karate Kid.. again. He's my fave and he's already died twice.. or Colossal Boy.. he died once, too.
Killing Dream Girl was ... predictable.. and lame.
I said it before and I'll say it again : Writers who kill off heroes are writers who are not inspired.
Even seemingly useless heroes can be made to be quite interesting.... by the use of a good writer.

notwedge, I love Booster Gold too! I remember when he first came out in 1986. I was dating Paul and we were very happy. I remember Paul introduced me to Moonlighting, which is a very funny TV show, and I have been a fan since then. Bruce Willis was there, and he has also been in Die Hard 1, 2, and 3. Those are very good movies! Samuel L. Jackson is in the third one, and he's my favorite actor ever. I loved him in Pulp Fiction, even though I didn't like that picture very much because of all the violence.
Anyway, Booster Gold has died one time that I'm aware of. That happened in 52! Do you read 52? I love it, though I don't care much for all the violence.
What's your mother's maiden name, notwedge? My mom's was Susan!

You are correct! I totally forgot that Booster Gold used a Legion flight ring in order to fly! So, the ring could have been his....
