The Chinese New Year means it's also the Vietnamese New Year, aka Tet, and thus the lunar anniversary of the beginning of the Tet Offensive. The Tet Offensive, you'll recall, was the "turning point" of the Vietnam War, when everyone decided we were losing -- even though, historians unanimously agree, it was the Communists who actually suffered a military defeat, as they met none of their tactical goals and the Viet Cong were decimated. Well, I think we will all agree that China will sooner rather than later absorb Vietnam and Taiwan. They may also absorb N. and S.Korea and parts of Russia, but that would require all out war. I believe China could "annex" Vietnam and Taiwan and all the west would do is complain to the UN (the USA included, and never mind that agreement we have with Taiwan).
And that doesn't change the fact that Chinese and Vietnamese people would rather not be called Asian-American, because they aren't.
