Actually, the teams were very different back in the East Coast/West Coast days up until shortly after Byrne had took over the book.WCA had a lighter tone and a more relaxed atmosphere than the ECA.The line up for WCA was more appealing to read for a time vs the ECA.Iron Man,Wonder Man,Tigra,Vision,Scarlet Witch,Hawkeye & Mockingbird as well as Hank Pym & Moon Knight who joined later on.The ECA had Dr.Druid,Black Knight,Captain Marvel,Wasp,Namor & sometimes Thor & Captain America. After Byrne took over though, the book fell in line with a similar tone to the ECA and pretty soon the West Coast team began to fill with some pretty lame 3rd tier characters until the book was mercifully cancelled.

The team interaction was decidely different as well.
The WCA had a very "soap opera" feel about it, where as ECA seemed to be more of an "epic" feel to it!

ECA was like WWE to WCA indy promotion!

You always felt that the West Coast branch were more accessable, where as the East Coast branch felt like elite Hollywood celebs!

I always got a feeling that the East Coast branch always looked down on the West Coasters like they were Avengers Jr.

I had a mail subscription to WCA. Read it from the first miniseries, all the way up until Hawkeye got shot in Solo Avengers, and started wearing that gay armor suit. I think Paul Ryan was doing the art at the time. Sort of dipped in and out of it. But, "Forceworks" was pretty much the end for me.

Anyway, this new Avengers split-teams reminds me of that era....mainly for all the reasons Allan and Cunty stated. Whereas, the JLI/JLE teams pretty much had the same humor angle, with the JLE being only slightly less goofy in places.

But, that's just me...
