Maxima was indeed killed in OWAW. The onyl lasting fatality apart from Lois Lane's father, and a shame as she was a love interest of Superman's used really well in one Elseworlds story.
She would have been an obvious asset for any space drama, of which DC currently have 4 - GL, GLC, Mystery in Space and Omega Men.
