all david e. kelley shows tend to be like that. they start off with a basic premise, with believable characters, and just get weirder and weirder.
the more ridiculous the subject matter or character, the more likely that subject or character will stick around for more than one episode. traditionally, this continues into the 4th or 5th season, when the show gets so inane, it implodes.
all that said, this is the longest i've ever really liked one of these shows. allan is way too moral and political and denny crane is way too retarded, but its still pretty good, and typically funny. i love the constant references to the characters knowing they're on a tv show.
last week's season finale did, however, retract allan and denny to their earlier states; allan was just a good and silent lawyer, and denny crane actually de-mad cowed and made some excellent points.
hopefully, they'll stick with that for awhile.
