I was able to get my hands on year 7 of the Practice, where they fired most of the cast and brought in James Spader. Alan was very dark there, still witty and funny and caring about people, but he had a lot of demons. It made for some damn good stuff, his jokes were fewer and much sharper.
I think they'd be smart to streamline the cast next year. Fire that girl and her boyfriend Clarence, also axe Jerry. And Denny needs to straddle that line between funny old man and sad old man.

And Julie Bowen is very pretty. Only a gay closeted traffice lawyer would criticize her in any way.
