The comics are in a pretty popular format called .CBR. All you need to read a CBR file is installing a little program called CDisplay. A normal 22 page comic (ads are ditched by most scanners) takes about 12 MBs. The quality looks fine to me... I haven't found a low quality scan in a while.
A CBR file is actually a .RAR folder (with a changed extension), full of image files, usually JPGs. The advantage over simply downloading the scanned pages is that the reader makes it easier to scroll and flip through the pages, and is highly customizable. It zooms the pages to full screen by default, but I set mine to leave the explorer bar.
