Yeah, but they probably also remember watching Tom & Jerry and Danger Mouse and He-Man and The Banana Splits and Atom And so on and so on. Kids watch an awful lot of cartoons, most in passing. Unless they became fans of one of those shows, they couldn't possibly remember the details of each of them. They'll still be aware of Superman and Tom & Jerry and He-Man, because they're part of guess what culture. Again: Apache Chief... not so much.

The use of the term I've come across the most, is people referencing the JLA almost as a technical definition for when known superheroes get together. A group of superheroes is a superhero group, a group of known superheroes is a Justice League.
