Wasn't this movie supposed to be CGI animated? The point over who plays who is rendered moot I think. Having Bale as Batman or Routh as Superman would just be a cool curiosity if anything...

Look, I can take you saying that [Tommy Welling > Brandon Routh], because at least that means they're different... but saying they're the same? You're just being cruel. If you didn't like the movie that's fine, but there's no need to start throwing personal insults at the people involved.

One of the reasons I didn't like the movie was because of Routh's inability to act. One of the many reasons I don't like Smallville is Welling's inability to act. They unact on the same level. Therefore, they are equal in their unactitude.

Oh, Tom Welling can act. Haven't you seen the show? Sometimes he gets sad, and then other times he gets very angry! I saw an episode where they show him some red kryptonite (which episode was it, rex?), and he got all mean and nasty with his friends. You could tell he was evil because he would arch his eyebrows and do a wicked smile (also he has a black leather jacket for these occasions). Welling has loads of different faces and different tones of voice that he uses to let you know how he's feeling (the Top Forty songs help, too). Smallville is a roller coaster of emotions, with Tom Welling on the front seat.

Maybe Brandon Routh doesn't act, but you can't say the same about Tommy Welling. He acts like every other underwear model turned soap opera actor. Therefore, Welling and Routh are in completely different categories.

The casting notice they sent out said they were looking for a black actor, so GL is most likely gonna be John Stewart.

not necessarily. considering that they're not referring to GL in their notices, it could mean that they're casting a black actor for J'Onn.

Possible plot spoilers.

http://movieblog.ugo.com/index.php/movie...vies_storyline/
Warning, Spoiler:
  • The characters of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash and Martian Manhunter comprise the League. One name that I did not hear mentioned was that of Aquaman. Where’d the fish guy go? Good question.
  • Story elements from the screenplay have been adapted directly from DC’s JLA comic book series.
  • The man wearing the Green Lantern ring in the JLA film is John Stewart and not Hal Jordan (Earth’s first Green Lantern) or Kyle Rayner (who followed after Stewart’s run in the comic book continuity.) It should be noted that in the Justice League cartoon series John Stewart is the same character serving as Earth’s Green Lantern.
  • The Flash is the youngest member of the JLA. He has a crush on Wonder Woman.
  • Wonder Woman is portrayed as the member that acts as defacto humanitarian and face for the League. Our source told us that the best way to describe how she is written in the script is to “think of Angelina Jolie and her relations with foreign countries.”
  • Unbeknownst to the League Batman has a piece of technology that he developed called the “Redeye”, a cool piece of hardware that he can use to spy unbeknownst on the other League members. Want to know what the secret identity of Superman is? Not a problem. Want to find out what can cripple or kill each League member, their Achilles heel? It’s a snap with the Redeye. Batman files away the knowledge in case the day might ever come when he will need to use it to take down a member of the JLA that goes rogue or becomes a villain.
  • The Redeye is a fulcrum to the events that transpire in the movie. A villain—and I’m not at liberty to say which specific one or ones—will gain control of the Redeye. Instead of serving as a means of protecting the planet’s populace from the threat of a superhuman out of control, this creation of Batman’s will come back to haunt him, threaten the lives of the League and the safety of everyone on the entire planet.
  • During the course of the movie the day that Batman feared would come happens: a member of the League will, and we directly quote our source here, “go bad.”

It should also be said at this point that there is at least one major twist in the story that I’m not going to blow because I deem it an Empire spoiler. For those out there that don’t get my reference, imagine it’s 1979, the internet exists and you’re reading rumors about the new Star Wars sequel called The Empire Strikes Back. There’s some new guy called Lando, there’s a big battle on a snow planet, Luke meets up with another Jedi and Darth Vader says something to Luke near the end of the picture. Sure, those are all spoilers but if I came out and said what Vader told Luke? That’s an “Empire”. What’s in the box that Brad Pitt holds in the final ten minutes of Seven is an Empire. Kevin Spacey’s change of footwork at the end of The Usual Suspects is another Empire. Got it? Good.

My thanks to “A Friend 22,300 Miles Away”.

That whole supposed "plot" that Doc quoted sounds like a second movie in a trilogy. Not the first. Why would you want to make a movie like that as the first one? It would have no real impact, because no one would have any attachment to the characters yet.

I give this a Nerd Yalp of "Meh!"...

No one wants to piss off Bale

The rumor mill for this movie is really starting to pick up ever since WB confirmed George Miller as the director. Now we have some casting news to share regarding who's playing Batman and Green Lantern. As expected, WB wants this to be a monster hit, so they're looking for name actors in the main roles. If not for all the league then definitely at least for the Big Three (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman).

According to BoF, every name actor that Miller and WB have approached to play Batman are backing away because they don't want to step on Christian Bale's toes. This is understandable. Everyone loves what he and Nolan are doing with The Dark Knight and they don't want to be seen by the public as trying to take the role away. It's a predicament because they don't see themselves casting an unknown in a role as big as Batman, especially if the script reports are true and he's playing such a heavy role in the plot.

As for Green Lantern, several actors are currently in the running, but we only know about two so far. UGO is reporting that Tyrese Gibson is the guy who might fill into the green-and-black tights, while IESB.net suggested that rapper T.I. had already read for the role.

Let's wait and see who is worthy enough to hold the most powerful ring in the universe.

Jessica Biel is not Wonder Woman

Actress Jessica Biel has decided to pass on playing Wonder Woman in Warner Brothers live-action adaptation of Justice League of America. The former 7th Heaven star had been in early talks to play the Amazonian princess. She’s currently shooting the drama Powder Blue with Forest Whitake

from what i've read Bale isn't interested in doing that kind of story, he likes what he and Nolan aredoing and the sci-fi alien invaders of the JLA would seem silly by comparison and would be like selling out. so they'd probably need the kind of down to earth story that no studio would want for a JLA movie.

That's why I think a JLA movie won't happen. Their best bet is to do something CGI (similar to the recent TMNT movie), or stick with animation. DC can easily do something good like Ultimate Avengers even after New Frontier comes out.

The Vine: Young actors seek 'Justice'
By Borys Kit

Oct 15, 2007

This weekend, Young Hollywood stepped into the superhero hall of justice to see who will get the parts in the big-budgeted Warner Bros. tentpole movie "Justice League of America."

Director George Miller flew in Saturday from his native Australia for a marathon casting session that started Sunday and continues Monday, seeing 35-40 actors test for roles in the comic book movie.

Miller is seeing about four or five actors for the parts of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter, with a few overlaps. A few nonhero parts might be testing as well.

On the roll call are Adam Brody (Fox's "The O.C."), Joseph Cross ("Running With Scissors"), D.J. Cotrona ("Windfall"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("Grindhouse"), Michael Angarano ("Sky High"), Teresa Palmer ("Wolf Creek"), Max Thieriot ("Jumper") and rapper Common.

The cast of NBC's "Friday Night Lights" is well-represented as well, with Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki and Scott Porter also among those testing for parts. No costumes are involved in the tests, which are being taped as actors read script pages.

If the names feel young, it's because Miller is looking for actors to grow into their roles over the course of several movies. Sources say Miller, known to be a methodical director, is testing not only for the roles themselves but how the actors interact with one another while keeping an eye on the look of the whole group. The director is due to present his findings to the studio midweek.

MovieHole.net has posted a report claiming to have read a few pages of the "Justice League" movie script...

The film opens with John Stewart/The Green Lantern leaving space for the beachy surroundings of what's described in the brief as being a "San Diego" like town - its there that he'll have to rescue a Submarine crew (I don't think I'll give away the finer aspects of the sequences - just to say they could look impressive) from something with "a lot of arms". We're next introduced to Aquaman, who spots the leviathan battering a lighthouse. A large-scale skirmish occurs between the sea hero and the sea villain. Then, Wonder Woman is introduced - but not before Superman, in a mid-air fight, crashes her scene. Next, The Flash gets his big intro scene.... Rescuing plainclothes detective Ben Chyre from a 'ticking' bear - something 'the Trickster' has cooked up. The Flash has a bit of fun with a news crew - says something so fast that they're unable to use it on air - which might evoke a laugh or two.

We're introduced to our villain, Max Lord, as he watches a monitor where[what appears to be] Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman etc are ''terrorizing a building full of homeless people. Destroying the arches and pulling the supports down..." We then learn that Lord has captured a team of superheroes already - "ULTRAMAN, SUPERWOMAN, OWLMAN, JOHNNY QUICK and POWER RING..." - who he plans to use for his own devious mission : pit them against the "Justice League".

With the departure of Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris from the Superman movie franchise, Mark Miller has expressed his need and desire to write a new Superman flick. He even states he'd do it for free.

Well, that sounds like absolute crap.

BTW, "something with a lot of arms" sounds to me like Starro.

Just that short sequence described sounds too busy for it's own good. So not only do you have Starro, the Trickster, you also have Max Lord and The Crime Syndicate??!!

I'm sorry but this doesn't sound like any cohesive movie. It sounds like a fucking Geoff Johns summer crossover issue. Maybe there'll be a scene with Batman narrowly avoiding a kitchen sink. Since that is all that hasn't been tossed in apparently.

As long as the script isn't another actionless pedestrian snooze-fest, i'll be happy.

The problem IMO is the same that the comics tend to also suffer from. Writers that just don't have the imagination to come up with stories on a Superman caliber level. They always tend to blame the character and his power levels rather than themselves and their limited imaginations.

What this movie needs IMO is a Morrisson or Michael Bay type to just let their imaginations fly.

This "Justice League" movie is going to be the gayest cliche'-fest since Shumacher and his Bat films. Get ready to have this entire concept ruined for movies for decades and decades to come.

Hollywood, Time-Warner, and DC aren't interested in making a JLA movie. They're interested in ramping up and out a bland, by-the-numbers Smallville-sells-Happy-Meals shitfest to try and compete with what they imagine Marvel's "Avengers" will be.

Unfortunately for them, if the casting and look of 'Iron Man' is any indication of where Marvel is going for their films, Time-Warner and 'Justice League' are fucking screwed.

And hope they lose millions on this project. When will these fucking corporate suits EVER LEARN to take the time and honor the source material? Name a single comic movie that truly honors the source material, with a tight script, that isn't a good comic movie? There might be one, and in my current irritation with these wastes of human DNA, I might be forgetting a winner/loser here. But, my opinion is that if you stick with the real stuff, you GET the real stuff.

FUCK THESE ASSHOLES!!!!
